What have the crews done so far?Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, finished installing natural gas mains on the following streets:
- 62nd Avenue N. from W. Broadway Avenue to Winnetka Avenue N.
- Winnetka Avenue N. from 62nd Avenue N. to 60th Avenue N.
Currently crews from Q3, another authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, are restoring the areas affected by construction. When they are finished, they will remove traffic barriers from those streets.
Where are the crews now?Starting today on Wednesday, June 7, Michels Corporation will be installing natural gas distribution main at southwest and northeast curb sides of the intersection of Bass Lake Road (County Road 10) and Winnetka Avenue N. This work will last for one to two weeks from June 7 to 14 or 23. The following lanes will be closed at the intersection:
- The southbound lane from Bass Lake Road to Winnetka Avenue
- The northbound lane on Winnetka Avenue from Bass Lake Road
- The westernmost right turn lane from southbound Winnetka Avenue to westbound Bass Lake Road
The crews are still on schedule for beginning the New Hope and Crystal phase in August 2017.
Note: The construction at Winnetka Avenue N. and Bass Lake Road is going on concurrently while construction is occurring on the following streets:
- The eastbound lanes of 68th and 69th Avenues N. from Winnetka Avenue N. to Adair Avenue N.
- The southbound curb side of W. Broadway Avenue from 68th Avenue N. to 69th Avenue N.
- W. Broadway Avenue from 69th Avenue N. to Bottineau Boulevard (a Hennepin County project; for more information, please visit their website on “Bottineau Boulevard Reconstruction.”)
The traffic control plans listed below will remain in place for the roads mentioned above. Road closures will be lifted according to their respective dates. Please view this Project Status page to see details on the progress of construction for each road.
An open house is scheduled for April 3 at 6:00 p.m. at the New Hope City Hall 4401 Xylon Avenue N. Representatives from the Cities of New Hope and Crystal as well as CenterPoint Energy personnel will discuss details of the project and will invite questions or comments from the public.

What is CenterPoint Energy doing for construction?
Crews from CenterPoint Energy will begin replacing an existing natural gas pipeline in New Hope and Crystal around August 7, 2017. Project construction is expected to last until late October. Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will begin installing natural gas distribution and transmission mains along Winnetka Avenue N. from 68th Avenue N. just north of I-694/I-94 in Brooklyn Park to 55th Avenue N. in New Hope.
What are the proposed traffic plans?Winnetka Avenue N. will allow access to local traffic only in areas of pipeline construction activity (typically two to three blocks at a time). A Brooklyn Park phase will begin approximately May 15 on 69th Avenue N. at Adair Avenue N. and construction will proceed westward on 69th Avenue N. to Winnetka Avenue N.
