Efforts to install sections of modern gas main in Silver Lake are active on Frank Street this week, with work still to be done on the eastern side of the work zone. The crew expects to move to Tower Avenue and Cleveland Street by the end of next week.
An additional crew is also present in Silver Lake, moving natural gas meters outside and connecting service lines to the new main. This crew is following behind the work of the main crew, and are headed east from Lane Avenue.
At this time, we expect work on the new main to continue through the end of May. Service work will be close behind the main construction.
There are currently three utility crews in Silver Lake, working to install sections of modern natural gas main. One crew is on Main Street West and is making their way west, another is on Lake Avenue North and the third is on Park Avenue. The crews plan to move to Center Street next.
In areas where work is active, one sidewalk is closed, and street parking is restricted. There are lane shifts present in some areas as the crews need access to the roadway.
Please note there are additional utility companies and the City of Silver Lake’s road contractor actively working in the area as well.
For a few months beginning this April, CenterPoint Energy will replace the natural gas infrastructure in Silver Lake. Updates regarding the utility crew's location, traffic impacts and other details will be posted here regularly.
Before construction begins, an authorized contractor will be in the area to locate sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. This is an important safety measure CenterPoint is required to take. It is possible a technician performing this work will need to access your home to locate sewer lines. Ask to see CenterPoint Energy identification before letting anyone in your home.
