Crews from Michels Corporation, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, anticipate finishing the replacement of CenterPoint’s natural gas infrastructure on select streets in Cambridge in the first week of July. The streets with remaining gas work to do are Central Avenue, Ivy Street, and Holly Street. (For details on what to expect for service line and meter work, please visit the project’s web page here.) This work is in conjunction with the City of Cambridge’s Street Improvements Plan.

The streets impacted by the city’s work are closed to through traffic while the city’s contractors are resurfacing the roads. Another CenterPoint contractor, Q3 Contracting, will follow Michels Corporation’s work to restore the boulevards and lawns affected by the natural gas work. They anticipate performing this work in early or mid-July.

We appreciate your patience as we’re upgrading our infrastructure. The pipes used in these pipeline replacement and modernization projects are more resistant to corrosion and leakage, helping us continue to provide the safe, reliable service you count on that keeps you comfortable in your home. We wish you a great season!

What will CenterPoint Energy do?

From early June into late summer 2024, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in Cambridge to upgrade CenterPoint Energy’s natural gas infrastructure on select streets from Joy Circle to 34th Avenue SW and from Joy Court to Main Street S. During this time, the sidewalk will be closed on the north side of Central Avenue SW from Laurel Street S. to Main Street S. The north lane on Central Avenue SW will be closed while allowing traffic through. Parking may be closed on one or both sides of the roads where the crews will work.
