​​​Moving Gas Meters Outside in Southwest Minneapolis

Project Description

When, where, and why is CenterPoint Energy perform​ing construction?
Beginning in mid-April and lasting until late Fall 2018, crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will be moving CenterPoint Energy gas meters from inside customers’ homes to the outside of the customers’ homes. This project is part of CenterPoint Energy’s ongoing “Moving Gas Meters Outside​” project. As such, there is no cost to customers. More information on that project can be found on its web page, which will include FAQs.

Work this year will take place in Southwest Minneapolis on selected streets from W. 43rd Street and W. 48th Street to W. 54th Street, and from France Avenue S. to Upton Avenue S. and Humboldt Avenue S. Please see our “Map of Construction” below to view the highlighted streets. Also note that, on the map, the highlighted streets are the general areas where the crews will be working, but not every house on each street will be affected.

What should the customer expect during the proj​ect?

The customer will receive a CenterPoint Energy post card in the mail typically within one or two weeks prior to the day when the Michels Corporation crews will perform the work. (Below under “More Project Resources” is an example of a customer post card.) The crews will have CenterPoint Energy-authorized photo IDs stating that they are employees of Michels Corporation.

After the customer receives the post card, the foreman will arrive at the customer’s house to schedule an appointment that typically meets with the customer’s schedule. If the customer isn’t home when he arrives, he will leave a door tag with his contact information to schedule an appointment with him.

Customers are advised to set aside a two- to four-hour time frame for the inside-to-outside gas meter move. The foreman will access the natural gas meter inside the house, move the meter outside, and relight the natural gas appliance pilot lights after the new meter has been relocated.
