Minneapolis - Tangletown - Project Updates

Next week, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will begin a new portion of the project’s natural gas line replacements on 50th Street: moving inside meters outside by appointment and replacing and/or reconnecting the natural gas service lines to the new main.

For the rest of August, they will begin between 2nd and 4th Avenues S. and then work between Lyndale and Stevens Avenues S. In early September, Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, plans to follow this Michels Corporation crew’s route and restore the areas affected by their work.

During this remaining work, expect parking closures on both sides of 50th Street and a lane closure and a sidewalk closure on the side where the crews are working.

In the week of August 7, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace the natural gas main under the south sidewalk of 50th Street E. from east of Nicollet Avenue S. to 1st Avenue S. and under the east sidewalk of 1st Avenue S. from the southeastern corner of 1st Avenue S. and 50th Street E. to about 300 feet north of 50th Street E. They anticipate that the main replacement on this road will take approximately one week.

During this time, the eastbound lane on 50th Street E. from Nicollet Avenue to 1st Avenue S. will be closed. The crew will have a closure of 1st Avenue S. on the north and south sides of 50th Street E. A trucking route detour will be put in place from Nicollet Avenue to 46th Street to 4th Avenue S. The east sidewalk will be closed within this work area. Parking will also be restricted within work zone.

This will complete the main installation for the project. Another Michels Corporation crew will begin next week on moving inside meters outside by appointment and replacing and/or reconnecting service lines to the new main. In the week of July 31, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace the natural gas main under the south sidewalk of 50th Street W. from Gladstone to Belmont Avenues S.

During this time, the eastbound lane in this area will be closed. A trucking route detour will be put in place from Lyndale Avenue to 46th Street to Nicollet Avenue. The south sidewalk will be closed at the southeastern corner of Gladstone Avenue to the southwestern corner of Belmont Avenue. The following new traffic update will be added to CenterPoint Energy’s existing traffic plan on 50th Street W. from Lyndale to Pleasant Avenues.

For two days from today on Monday, July 24 to tomorrow on Tuesday, July 25, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace the natural gas main under the northeast intersection of 50th Street W. and Lyndale Avenue S.

During this time, parking will be restricted on both sides of 50th Street W. in this area. The northbound and southbound lanes on Lyndale Avenue will be shifted to the west as single lanes, and the westbound lane on 50th Street W. from Garfield to Lyndale Avenues will be closed. A trucking route detour will be put in place from Nicollet Avenue to 46th Street W. to Lyndale Avenue. The sidewalk will be closed at the northeastern corner of this intersection. The CenterPoint Energy construction at Harriet Avenue S. and 50th Street W. has caused an unplanned power outage in the area. This is being addressed and will be fixed as soon as possible. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

In the weeks of July 17 and 24, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace the natural gas main under the north sidewalk 50th Street W. between Lyndale and Pleasant Avenues S. They anticipate that the main replacement on this road will take approximately two weeks. During this time, parking will be restricted on both sides of 50th Street W. in this area. There will be a lane shift in the eastbound and westbound lanes. The north sidewalk will be closed throughout this stretch. In the week of July 5th, a crew from Michels, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace the natural gas main under the north sidewalk and tie-ins at each cross street from 2nd Ave S to Clinton Ave S. They anticipate that the main replacement on this road will take approximately 1 - 2 weeks. During this time, they will be working under the full closure that is currently in place from the city work on 50th St E. Sidewalk on north side of 50th St E will also be closed in areas needed, between 2nd Ave S & Clinton Ave S as we install. Thank you for your patience and safe practices as we proceed with our work!

For approximately eight weeks beginning in the week of June 26, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work along 50th Street W. from Lyndale Avenue S. to 4th Avenue S. Equix Integrity will update our records on the locations of sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. Michels Corporation will replace natural gas mains, move inside meters to the outside of homes, and replace or reconnect service lines as needed. Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work outside the limits of the City of Minneapolis’s work.

There will be no assessment or cost associated with our work. During this time, restrictions may occur with parking, lanes, and sidewalks.
