As temperatures begin to rise, CenterPoint anticipates the beginning of the 2025 construction season. Beginning the first week of April, service crews will be present in the East Harriet and Kingfield area to resume moving meters outside and upgrading service lines. Permanent restoration for those who received temporary solutions in the winter will also be in the area in the coming weeks.

Construction crews in the Kingfield and East Harriet area moved offsite for the winter on December 13, 2024. Current restoration work is temporary due to cold temperatures and crews will return to the area as weather allows to provide permanent solutions. Any service work that remains will be done prior to permanent restoration. Updates will be provided as utility crews resume construction.

There are multiple crews currently working on service line and meter upgrades in the East Harriet and Kingfield Neighborhoods of Minneapolis. This week, crews are along Harriet Avenue S. and Colfax Avenue S.
Restoration will follow a few weeks behind the completion of services. Due to the colder temperatures, crews will perform temporary restoration efforts with permanent solutions to come in the spring and summer of 2025 as weather conditions allow. Temporary restoration includes ensuring sidewalks and roads are fit for snow removal over the winter.

There are now several service crews working in the area to ensure efficiency as we near the end of the construction season.
One crew continues to move north on Aldrich Avenue S. Others are on Colfax Avenue S. and Blaisdell Avenue S.
The fourth crew has completed services on Garfield Avenue S. and is now heading south on Harriet Avenue S. from 36th Street W.
Another crew is wrapping up work on Pillsbury Avenue S. also heading south, and will then move to Stevens Avenue S. between 37th Street E. and 38th Street E.
As services are done, restoration crews will follow in their path completing temporary restoration in preparation for permanent solutions when the weather allows.

Gas main installation is complete in East Harriet. The authorized Michels Corporation crew for this natural gas main installation has moved offsite as of today, Oct. 28.
Service work persists in the area, moving north on Aldrich Avenue S following the completion of all services between 41st Street W. and 40th Street W.

Early this week, a crew from Michel’s Corporation began to install a natural gas main under the north sidewalk of 36th Street W. between Pleasant Avenue S. and Nicollet Avenue S. Installation of this main is anticipated to wrap up by the week of Oct. 28 with service work following and restoration to come a few weeks after the completion of services.
Traffic impacts for this work include parking restrictions on the north and south sides of 36th Street W. between Pleasant Avenue S. and Nicollet Avenue S, and closure of the north sidewalk along this section. On Oct. 16, the road will be closed to southbound traffic at the intersection of 36th Street W. and Blaisdell Avenue S. Parking will also be restricted on the east side of Blaisdell Avenue S. Detour routes are available at Nicollet Avenue S. and 38th Street W.
Beginning Oct. 17, construction crews will be moving on to install a natural gas main under the north sidewalk of 38th Street W. between Pleasant Avenue S. and Pillsbury Avenue S. Parking on the north and south sides of the street as well as the north sidewalk along 38th Street W within the construction zone will be closed until work is finished. We anticipate the natural gas main installation in this section to be complete early in the week of Oct. 21 with restoration following a few weeks later.
Construction of the gas main will move, in the week of Oct. 21, to the west sidewalk of Stevens Avenue S. between 37th Street E. and 38th Street E. Traffic control within this section of Stevens Avenue S. includes the closure of the west sidewalk with a temporary walking path on the east side as well as a restriction on parking along the west side of the street. Expect this work to wrap up by the week of Oct. 28 with service work to follow and restoration a few weeks after the completion of services.

Beginning Monday, October 14th, 2024, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will begin installing a natural gas main under the north sidewalk of West 36th Street between Pleasant Avenue South and Nicollet Avenue South.
Parking will be restricted on the north and south side of West 36th Street between Pleasant Avenue South and Nicollet Avenue South, and the north sidewalk will be closed. On October 15th and 16th, West 36th Street will be closed, heading south, at its intersection with Blaisdell Avenue South. Detour routes will be available at Nicollet Avenue South and West 38th Street.
Later that week, starting on October 17th, 2024, a natural gas main will begin to be installed under the north sidewalk of West 38th Street between Pleasant Avenue South and Pillsbury Avenue South.
Parking will be closed on the north and south sides of West 38th Street between Pleasant Avenue South and Pillsbury Avenue South, as will the north sidewalk.
Gas main installation in this area is anticipated to be complete by the end of the week of October 21st. Services will follow, and a few weeks after the completion of services restoration will occur. Thank you for your patience!

Crews from CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michel’s Corporation, have begun to install a natural gas main on the east sidewalk of Blaisdell Avenue South between West 36th Street and West 37th Street.
Parking will be restricted on the east side of the street on Blaisdell Avenue South between West 36th Street and West 37th Street. Expect a road closure on Blaisdell Avenue South and West 36th Street on Tuesday, October 15th and Wednesday, October 16th between 7am and 6pm daily. Traffic traveling south of West 37th Street will detour along Nicollet Avenue South to West 38th Street. Driveways on the 3600 block of Blaisdell Avenue South will be accessible at West 37th Street and Blaisdell Avenue South heading north.

Beginning on October 7th, 2024, a crew from Michel’s Corporation, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, will begin installing a natural gas main under the east sidewalk of West 36th Street between Lyndale Avenue South and Grand Avenue South. We anticipate this section to be finished after approximately a week. Services and restoration will follow the completion of this work.
Parking will be restricted on the north and south side of West 36th Street between Lyndale Avenue South and Grand Avenue South. The north sidewalk will be closed along West 36th Street from Lyndale Avenue South to Grand Avenue South throughout the completion of this work.

Natural gas main work
Michels Corporation, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, will have crews beginning work on Garfield Ave S between 36th St E and 38th St E as well as Harriet Ave S between 36th St E and 38th St E. Natural gas main projects within this region will be completed within the week of Monday, September 30th, and crews will move on to 36th St W between Lyndale Ave S and Grand Ave S.
Parking remains closed on the east side of the road, while the west remains open.

Crews from Michels Corporation, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, are continuing to install natural gas mains in the East Harriet and King Field Neighborhoods.
From Monday, September 23 to Tuesday, October 1, one crew plans to install a natural gas main under the north sidewalk of 38th Street W. between Colfax Avenue S. and Lyndale Avenue S. This traffic control includes the following: no parking 38th Street W. from Colfax Avenue S. to Lyndale Avenue S.; north sidewalk closure in this area; and a lane shift to the south on 38th Street W. between Bryant Avenue S. and Lyndale Avenue S.
In this same timeframe, another Michels Corporation crew plans to install a natural gas main under the east sidewalk of Aldrich Avenue S. between 38th Street W. and 37th Street W. This traffic control includes no parking along the east side of Aldrich Avenue S. and the east sidewalk closed in this area.
Another Michels Corporation crew will follow to move inside meters outside and replace and/or reconnect service lines to these new mains. For more information on what to expect, please visit the project’s web page here.

Parking on Aldrich Avenue S. from 38th Street W. to 41st Street W. will be reopened on September 23.

From Tuesday, September 17 to Tuesday, October 1, a crew from Michels Corporation, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, anticipates installing a natural gas main under the east sidewalk of Aldrich Avenue S. between 38th Street W. and 41st Street W. In addition, they will move inside meters outside by appointment and replace and/or reconnect service lines to the new main.
During this time, the crew will close parking and sidewalks along the following streets: the east side of Aldrich Avenue S. from 38th Street W. to 41st Street W.; the north side of 41st Street W. from Bryant Avenue S. to Aldrich Avenue S.; and the north side of 39th Street W. from Bryant Avenue S. to Lyndale Avenue S.
After the service line and meter work, the gas crew will backfill the excavated areas with dirt or gravel. This will be temporary before the restoration crew comes from Q3 Contracting, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor. On boulevards and lawns, they will refill the areas with black dirt, grass seed, and netting made of wood fiber that degrades over about four months. Prior to mowing the restored area, remove any loose staples that secured the netting.

Crews from Michels Corporation, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, have been and will continue to replace lines in the natural gas infrastructure in the East Harriet and King Field Neighborhoods. One crew has been replacing natural gas mains and anticipates their work to finish by Wednesday, September 18 with their road and parking closures opened by Thursday, September 19.
Another crew has been moving inside meters outside by appointment and replacing some service lines. They have finished their work on Aldrich Avenue S. between 36th Street W. and 37th Street W. and between 41st Street W. and 46th Street W. They are finishing their work on the following streets:
Dupont Avenue S. between 36th Street W. and 38th Street W. and between 40th Street W. and 46th Street W.; Fremont Avenue S. between 42nd Street W. and 46th Street W.; and East Lake Harriet Parkway between 43rd Street W. and 46th Street W.
In the week of Monday, September 16, the crew will work on 43rd Street W. between Bryant Avenue S. and Lyndale Avenue S. They anticipate their work to last for a week. During this time, parking will be closed on both sides of the road. One sidewalk will remain open at a time.
After this, the crew will determine which streets they’ll work on next.

A crew from Michels Corporation, a CenterPoint Energy authorized contractor, will start installing a natural gas main under the south sidewalk of W. 43rd Street, on Monday, September 9 between Bryant Avenue S. and Lyndale Avenue S. This traffic control includes a road closure on W. 43rd Street between Bryant Avenue S. and Lyndale Avenue S., while keeping north and south access to Aldrich Avenue S. open. Detour routes are along Bryant Avenue S. and Lyndale Avenue S.
Both the north and the south sides of W. 43rd Street will have no parking between Bryant Avenue S. and Lyndale Avenue S. The south sidewalk along W. 43rd Street between Bryant Avenue S. and Lyndale Avenue S. will be closed.
What will CenterPoint Energy do in 2024?
This summer and fall 2024, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in the East Harriet and the King Field Neighborhoods in Minneapolis to replace the natural gas mains, move inside meters outside by appointment, replace and/or reconnect service lines to the new main, and restore the areas affected by this work. The project area is on select streets from 36th Street W. to 46th Street W. and from Lake Harriet Parkway to Stevens Avenue. There will be no assessment or cost associated with our work.
