Minneapolis - Hiawatha Neighborhood - Project Updates

For approximately one month beginning on Monday, August 7, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work along 42nd Street E. from Minnehaha Avenue to just west of Cheatham Avenue in the Hiawatha Neighborhood. While Michels Corporation will replace a natural gas main, move inside meters outside by appointment, and replace and/or reconnect service lines to the new main, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work outside the limits of Hennepin County’s ADA Improvements.

Two-way traffic will remain open on 42nd Street E. with some lane shifts. Flaggers may be on site helping direct traffic. The crews plan to close the northbound lane of Snelling Avenue on the north side of 42nd Street E., detouring through traffic to Hiawatha Avenue and 41st Street E. Parking will be restricted on one or both sides of 42nd Street E. One sidewalk will be open at a time.

In the month of June, a crew from Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace natural gas lines along 46th Avenue S. in the Hiawatha Neighborhood:

From Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 16, the crew will replace the natural gas main along 46th Avenue S. from 44th to 46th Streets E. and along 45th Street E. from 46th to 47th Avenues S.

From Monday, June 12 to Friday, June 30, the crew will move inside meters outside by appointment and will replace and/or reconnect the service lines from 38th to 40th Streets E. and from 44th to 46th Streets E.

For most of the project’s route, the crews will work on one side of the street at a time, closing one sidewalk at a time. Parking will be restricted on both sides of the roads. Flaggers may be on site to help direct traffic. The two anticipated road closures are as follows: 45th Street E. from 46th to 47th Avenues S. and 46th Avenue S. from 45th to 46th Streets E.

Another Q3 Contracting crew will follow to restore the areas affected by the gas crew’s work outside the limits of the City of Minneapolis’s 2023 Mill and Overlay Project.

In the Hiawatha Neighborhood in Minneapolis, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work on the following streets: For approximately one month this spring 2023, they will work on 46th Avenue S. between 44th and 46th Streets E. and at Dowling Street. For approximately several weeks this fall 2023, they will work on 42nd Street E. from Minnehaha Avenue to Highway 55.

Equix Integrity will update our records on the locations of sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. A natural gas contractor will move inside meters to the outside of homes and replace natural gas service lines as needed. Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by the gas contractor’s work. There will be no assessment or cost associated with our work.
