A service crew has been working along Cedar Avenue South to replace and connect service lines to the new main and move indoor gas meters outside. Their construction is expected to wrap up by the end of next week.

A few weeks after the completion of construction, a restoration crew will come on site to repair all impacted areas.

Hennepin County has ongoing pedestrian ramp and streetlight construction in the area. It is possible the County’s work will continue past the completion of gas work.

Installation of modern natural gas main along Cedar Avenue South, between East 49 Street and East 52 Street, began on Friday, May 9. We expect the new main to be in place by the end of this week. At that time, a service crew will come on site to connect service lines to the new main and move indoor gas meters outside.

Both directions of traffic on Cedar Avenue South will experience a reduction in lane size while they remain open. The west sidewalk along Cedar Avenue South is closed, with the east remaining accessible. Through traffic is restricted at the intersection of East 52 Street and Cedar Avenue South. A detour is in place, and crews maintain access for residents.

Natural gas construction updates

For approximately one month beginning this April, CenterPoint Energy will replace the natural gas infrastructure in the Hale Neighborhood of Minneapolis. Updates regarding the utility crew's location, traffic impacts and other details will be posted here regularly.

Before construction begins, an authorized contractor will be in the area to locate sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. This is an important safety measure CenterPoint is required to take. It is possible a technician performing this work will need to access your home to locate sewer lines. Ask to see CenterPoint Energy identification before letting anyone in your home.
