Minneapolis - East Bde Maka Ska - Project Updates

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors are finishing CenterPoint Energy’s natural gas line replacements project in East Bde Maka Ska.

While Michels Corporation finished replacing the project’s natural gas lines, Q3 Contracting has been following to restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

The gas crews backfilled the excavated areas with dirt or gravel. On boulevards and lawns, the restoration crews will refill the areas with black dirt, grass seed, and netting that degrades over about four months. Prior to mowing the restored area, remove any loose staples that secured the blanket.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, has several crews replacing natural gas lines throughout the East Bde Maka Ska Neighborhood. While one crew replaced all the project’s natural gas mains, another crew has been moving inside meters outside by appointment and replacing and/or reconnecting the service lines to the new mains.

This crew has been working on Humboldt Avenue S. between 34th and 36th Streets E. and Holmes Avenues S. between 33rd and 36th Streets E. As they work on select blocks, they post “no parking” signs on the side where they’re working. One sidewalk is closed at a time.

As a block is finished with the service line and meter work, the crews will put temporary backfill on the excavations. This may include dirt or gravel.

In several weeks, Q3 Contracting will come to permanently restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. We thank you tremendously for your patience as we upgrade our infrastructure.

In the week of June 19, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace the natural gas main under the east sidewalk of Holmes Avenue between 34th and 36th Streets W. and 36th Street W. from Holmes to Hennepin Avenues. They anticipate that the main replacement on this road will take approximately one week. During this time, parking will be restricted on both sides of Holmes Avenue with the west sidewalk being open on Holmes Avenue. On 36th Street W., there will be a lane shift moving all lanes to the south. The north sidewalk between Hennepin and Holmes Avenues will be closed.

For approximately two weeks beginning this week, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, will replace natural gas mains under the following streets: the east sidewalk of Holmes Avenue from 33rd to 36th Streets W.; the south sidewalk of 33rd Street W. from Holmes to Hennepin Avenues; the north sidewalk of 35th Street W. from Humboldt to Holmes Avenues; the south sidewalk of 35th Street W. from Holmes to Hennepin Avenues; and the north sidewalk of 36th Street W. from Humboldt to Hennepin Avenues.

During this time, parking will be restricted on both sides of the affected roads. While the affected sidewalks will be closed, the other sidewalks will stay open. The crew plans to move the “no parking” signs one block at a time. Parking restrictions will stay in effect Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A second Michels Corporation crew plans to begin working in June to move inside meters outside by appointment and to replace and/or reconnect service lines to the new mains.

For approximately one month beginning on Monday, June 5, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will perform work along select streets in the East Bde Maka Ska Neighborhood. Equix Integrity will update our records on the locations of sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. Michels Corporation will replace natural gas mains, move inside meters to the outside of homes, and replace or reconnect service lines as needed. Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. There will be no assessment or cost associated with our work.
