​​​Project Status - Minneapolis - E. 25th Street from 13th to 14th Avenues S.

CenterPoint Energy is finished with construction on its E. 25th Street project! Construction began on September 25, 2017, and ended within the week of November 27. Below are the construction details:

  • Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, installed natural gas main along E. 25th Street between 13th Avenue S. and 14th Avenue S. in Minneapolis.
  • Crews fro​m Q3 Contracting, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, have temporarily restored the hard and soft areas affected by CenterPoint Energy’s construction. Permanent restoration will take place in the spring.

CenterPoint Energy is progressing in construction on its E. 25th Street project. Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, are continuing to install the natural gas main along E. 25th Street between 13th Avenue S. and 14th Avenue. The project is scheduled to be finished within the week of November 27, 2017. Below are the construction details:

  • The crews have lifted the closure on 14th Avenue S. at E. 25th Street. Drivers can go northbound and southbound on 14th Avenue S.
  • Currently drivers can’t go eastbound and westbound on E. 25th Street between 13th Avenue S. and 14th Avenue S. Detours will lead drivers on site. This closure will remain in place until the end of the project.
  • Until November 17, the crews have closed 13th Avenue S. at E. 25th Street. Drivers can’t go northbound and southbound on 13th Avenue S. Detours will lead drivers on site.
  • When crews from Michels Corporation are finished installing the natural gas main, crews from Q3 Contracting, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will perform temporary restoration on the hard surfaces affected by construction. When the temporary restoration is finished, the traffic signs associated with CenterPoint Energy’s work will be removed from the project site. Permanent restoration will take place in the spring. The soft surfaces will also be restored in the spring.​

CenterPoint Energy is progressing in construction on its E. 25th Street project. Below are the construction details:

  • Crews from M​ichels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, began installing the natural gas main on September 25, 2017, and will finish installing the main by Thanksgiving (November 23).
  • The crews have been installing the natural gas main on 13th Avenue S. at the intersection of E. 25th Street.
  • Beginning on Friday, October 20, the crews will shut down E. 25th Street from 13th Avenue S. to 14th Avenue S. to install more of the natural gas main. This closure will last for two weeks. Detour signs will be posted on site, leading drivers back to E. 25th Street.

  • Lane restricti​ons are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring. The lane restrictions are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.  ​

What is CenterPoint Energy doing for construction?

Crews from CenterPoint Energy will begin replacing an existing natural gas pipeline in Minneapolis on Monday, September 25. Project construction is expected to last until late fall or early winter 2017. (Frequent updates will be posted on this Project Status page.) Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will begin installing natural gas mains along E. 25th Street between 13th Avenue S. and 14th Avenue S.

What are the traffic plans?

  • ​Lane restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring. The lane restrictions are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.
  • There will be periodic closures on E. 25th Street between 13th Avenue S. and 14th Avenue S. At alternate times, there will be periodic closures on either 13th Avenue S. or 14th Avenue S.
  • During a closure, detour signs will be posted on site. The signs will be changed alternately to correspond with the above closures: E. 24th Street, Bloomington Avenue, E. 26th Street, 12th Avenue S. and Chicago Avenue.​

Construction will happen in two phases:

  • Phase 1 is installing the natural gas distribution main.
  • Phase 2 is restoring the areas affected by construction--typically the utility easement, the street, and the customer's yard.
