It is beginning to feel like spring in Minnesota, and CenterPoint is anticipating construction to resume in the coming weeks.
Bryn Mawr residents who received temporary restoration on their lawns, sidewalks and boulevards in the fall of 2024 can expect to see crews in the area providing permanent solutions as soon as the beginning of April. This includes holes filled with sand, sidewalk and boulevard sections with blacktop patches and areas yet to receive grass seed.
Thank you for your patience throughout the winter months.
12/13/2024
CenterPoint Energy has completed all natural gas line upgrades in Bryn Mawr. This includes gas main replacement, service line work, and meter moves.
Restoration will continue to move through the area performing temporary repairs on sidewalks, lawns, and boulevards for the cold months. CenterPoint is committed to ensuring all areas affected by our construction are prepared for safe snow removal this winter.
In the spring, our restoration crews will come back on site to replace asphalt patches with concrete and refill holes in lawns and boulevards with black dirt and grass seed.
We thank you for your patience this season as we made improvements to the safety and reliability of our natural gas distribution system. We wish you a wonderful winter!
12/5/2024
All gas line work in Bryn Mawr is to be complete by the beginning of the week of December 9. Street signs and flashers will be removed from the work areas. Temporary winter restoration will continue throughout the neighborhood for a few more weeks.
11/21/2024
Final service line work on Queen Avenue S. will be completed today. The crews will then move to Vincent Avenue S. and Washburn Avenue N.
Restoration crews are working through Bryn Mawr to prepare lawns, boulevards, sidewalks, and roads for the winter. Restoration does not happen until all service work is done in an area. Over the next few weeks, restoration crews are working on the following streets, in order; Cedar Lake Road, Queen Avenue S. and Washburn Avenue N.
We remain committed to ensuring that all affected areas are attended to before work pauses this winter.
11/12/2024
The remaining construction to be done in Bryn Mawr consists of service line work on Queen Avenue S., Vincent Avenue N., and Washburn Avenue N. Expect services on Queen Avenue S. to be complete by early in the week of Nov. 22, and service crews to move northwest to Vincent Avenue N. and Washburn Avenue N. at that time.
Restoration crews continue to move through Bryn Mawr, following approximately 2 weeks behind construction. Due to colder temperatures, lawns and sidewalks will receive temporary restoration for the winter months with the goal of higher quality and more durable repairs in the spring and summer of 2025.
Winter Restoration Update
The temperatures are getting colder and as a result, there will be no more concrete work done in 2024. Sidewalks will receive temporary asphalt, allowing for safe snow removal and transportation throughout the cold months. In the spring, temperatures will be ideal for concrete to dry to its most durable state.
To control winter erosion on boulevards and lawns, holes are backfilled with dirt and protected with straw matting. In 2025, black dirt, grass seed, and biodegradable netting will replace the temporary work done this fall. This practice promotes effective grass growth come spring.
11/6/2024
As of today, November 6, one construction crew is finishing services on the 200 block of Queen Avenue S. When they have completed work on that street, they will join another service crew on Washburn Avenue N. Restoration crews continue to follow in the path of service work.
If you have not scheduled your meter move, please do so by calling 612-342-5123.

What is the crews’ progress?
Early this week, we provided an about CenterPoint Energy’s natural gas main replacements in Bryn Mawr. Today’s update will focus on the service line and meter work. Michels Corporation, a CenterPoint authorized contractor, will move inside meters outside by appointment and replace and/or reconnect service lines to the new mains.
One crew has been on Penn Avenue S. between Mount View Avenue and Chestnut Avenue W. They anticipate working here into mid-September. For about one week after Labor Day, the crew plans to work on the west side of Penn Avenue S. After that, they plan to work on the east side of Penn Avenue S. Although two-way traffic will remain open, parking will be closed on both sides. One sidewalk will be closed at a time.
On Thursday, August 29, two additional crews will begin service line and meter work. They will be on Upton Avenue S., and on Thomas Avenue S., beginning at Chestnut Avenue W. and working south for two blocks at a time until Laurel Avenue W. They estimate working on these blocks for a few weeks.
During this time, the crews will close parking on both sides of the roads where they’re working between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. One sidewalk will be open at a time. Two-way traffic will remain open. We thank you for your patience!
What should I expect?
The customer will receive a CenterPoint Energy postcard in the mail before the natural gas crews perform the work. The crews will have CenterPoint Energy-authorized photo IDs. After the customer receives the postcard, the technician will arrive at the customer’s house to schedule an appointment that typically meets with the customer’s schedule. If the customer isn’t home when they arrive, they will leave a door tag with their contact information to schedule an appointment with them.
One natural gas crew typically works on about one block per week. They will either fully replace the service line or reconnect it to the new main, depending on the line’s age. For most properties, the crews remove at least one sidewalk panel in front of the house, excavate a hole by the outside meter, and bore the service line from the sidewalk to the house.
For inside meters, the crew will make a two- to three-hour appointment at a time that works with the resident. We encourage customers to work with the crew on where they want the meter to go, keeping limitations in mind such as a minimum of three feet away from areas such as windows, doors, and vents. Customers with outside meters will be notified prior to the replacement or connection of the service lines to the new mains.
The technician will access the natural gas meter inside the house, move the meter outside, and relight the natural gas appliance pilot lights after the new meter has been relocated.
