Project 3

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors are progressing in their work for the third of three CenterPoint Energy natural gas line replacement projects in Bancroft Neighborhood.

While Michels Corporation finished replacing the project’s natural gas lines, Q3 Contracting has been following to restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

The gas crews backfilled the excavated areas with dirt or gravel. On boulevards and lawns, the restoration crews will refill the areas with black dirt, grass seed, and netting that degrades over about four months. Prior to mowing the restored area, remove any loose staples that secured the blanket.

We thank you very much for your patience as we upgraded our natural gas infrastructure.

The north sidewalk will be closed.

Project 1

This week, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, has been replacing a large-diameter natural gas steel main on Elliot Avenue from 37th to 38th Streets E. Until the end of the day on Thursday, July 20, they plan to keep Elliot Avenue closed to through traffic in this area.

From Friday, July 21 to Friday, July 28, they plan to extend the closure on Elliot Avenue to 39th Street E. During this time, they will be replacing the steel main on the 3800 block, while the 3700 block will be restored and reopened by Q3 Contracting. The crews will close 38th Street E. at Elliot Avenue, detouring through traffic to the next block over.

Project 2

From the week of Monday, July 24 into the week of Monday, August 14, the crews will work at the intersection of 42nd Street E. and 18th Avenue S. Michels Corporation will replace a natural gas main, replace a service line, and put the existing natural gas main out of service.

The natural gas work is expected for last for approximately one week, with the remaining two weeks for restoration. There will be no assessment or cost associated with our work. During this time, 18th Avenue S. will be closed at 42nd Street E., while eastbound and westbound traffic will remain open on 42nd Street E. Detour signs will lead through traffic to 41st or 43rd Streets E. and to Cedar Avenue. The sidewalks on the east side of 18th Avenue S. and the north side of 42nd Street E. will be closed.

Project 3

For several months beginning in late July 2023, the crews will work on select streets between Chicago and Bloomington Avenues S. and between 36th and 40th Streets E. They will replace some mains, move inside meters outside by appointment, and replace and/or reconnect some service lines to the new mains. During this time, expect lane, parking, and sidewalk closures where the crews are working.

For approximately two months beginning in late June, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work in the Bancroft and Powderhorn Park Neighborhoods. While Michels Corporation will replace the large-diameter natural gas steel main, Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work.

From Monday, June 26 to Friday, June 30, the crew will close the intersections of 37th and 39th Streets E. along Elliot Avenue S. From Monday, June 26 to Friday, July 14, the crew will close Elliot Avenue S. from 36th to 37th Streets E. From Friday, July 14 to Wednesday, July 26, the crew will close Elliot Avenue S. from 37th to 38th Streets E.

One sidewalk will remain open at a time. For most of the road closures, vehicular traffic will be detoured to the next block over. When the intersection of 38th Street E. and Elliot Avenue S. will be closed, traffic will be detoured to Bloomington Avenue S., 35th Street E., and Park or Portland Avenues S. We appreciate your patience as we work as efficiently as we can.

This May, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, replaced a small-diameter natural gas plastic main on 10th Avenue S. from 38th to 39th Streets E.

For approximately two weeks beginning Tuesday, May 30, a separate Michels Corporation crew will move inside meters outside by appointment and will replace and/or reconnect the residents’ service lines to this new main.

In mid-June, beginning approximately the week of June 12 or 19, a third Michels Corporation crew will begin replacing a large-diameter steel gas main on Elliot Avenue S. between 36th and 39th Streets E. (We replaced a small-diameter plastic main last year in this area.) They anticipate that this main replacement will last for about six weeks. This will include installing a vault in the northeastern corner of Elliot Avenue S. and 39th Street E.

During this time, all three blocks will be closed to through traffic, which will be detoured to the next block over. The crews will work with residents on maintaining access.

Restoration will follow by Q3 Contracting, CenterPoint Energy’s other authorized contractor.

What will CenterPoint Energy do?

For several months this 2023 construction season, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work on select streets throughout the Bancroft Neighborhood in Minneapolis. In one project, the crews will replace a large-diameter natural gas steel main on Elliot Avenue S. from 36th to 39th Streets E. and on 10th Avenue S. from 38th to 39th Streets E. In another project, the crews will replace some service lines and move inside meters outside on select streets (to be determined) between 36th and 40th Streets E. and between Chicago and Bloomington Avenues.

Equix Integrity will update our records on the locations of sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. A natural gas contractor will work on the gas lines and meters. Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by the gas contractor’s work. There will be no assessment or cost associated with our work.
