Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, will be finishing the project on 8th Avenue N. within the week of April 23.

This Saturday, April 22, they will be closing entrance into 1st Street N. from 8th Avenue N. Drivers cannot access 1st Street N. from 8th Avenue N. and vice versa. This closure will remain in effect on Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or the late afternoon. Detour signs will be posted on 1st and 2nd Streets N. and 3rd Avenue N. to divert drivers away from the closure on 1st Street N.

Also, 2nd Street N. will continue to have a lane shift while two-way traffic will be maintained. That closure will remain in effect until the roads are restored. The lane restrictions are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.

Beginning the week of April 23, crews from Q3, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, will restore the areas affected by construction, at no cost to the customer (Phase 2). Restoration will conclude the 8th Avenue N. project. We appreciate your patience throughout the construction process.

What is CenterPoint Energy doing for construction?

Crews from CenterPoint Energy will begin replacing an existing natural gas regulator station in Minneapolis on Tuesday, April 4. Project construction is expected to last until April 17. (Any changes in project dates will be noted on CenterPoint Energy’s website.) Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will begin installing the regulator station along the corner of 8th Avenue N. and 2nd Street N.

What are the traffic control plans?

Lane restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring. On 2nd Street N., the easternmost lane will be shifted. Two-way traffic will be maintained, but the bike and parking lanes on 2nd Street N. will be closed at the intersection of 8th Avenue N.

In addition, here are the following closures:
  • During the weekdays, the intersection of 8th Avenue N. and 2nd Street N. will be open to local traffic and will be maintained by traffic control personnel.
  • On the weekends, the intersection will be closed. Traffic cannot pass into 8th Avenue N. from 2nd Street N., but two-way traffic will still be maintained on 2nd Street N.

The lane restrictions are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.

This construction typically happens in two phases:

  • Phase 1 is installing the natural gas regulator station.
  • Phase 2 is restoring the areas affected by construction--typically the utility easement, the street, and the customer's yard.
