9/28/2016 Update

Crews from CenterPoint Energy have finished construction along W. 54th Street in Minneapolis between Penn Avenue S. and Lyndale Avenue S., in addition to W. 52nd Street from Morgan Avenue S. to Humboldt Avenue S. The crews installed a new natural gas distribution main and connected gas service lines to the new main.

The areas affected by construction have been restored by CenterPoint Energy. The remaining restoration has been done by the city of Minneapolis. We want to thank you for your patience.​



9/7/2016 Update

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, finished installing the natural gas distribution main on the W. 54th Street project.  

Currently they are connecting the new main to the existing mains along the streets intersecting W. 54th Street. They plan to finish the connections by about Tuesday, September 13.

When the crews from Michels Corporation leave the project, crews from the city of Minneapolis will begin the paving project according to the 2016 plans outlined on the city of Minneapolis’ website​


8/29/2016 Update

In the week of August 15, crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, finished installing the new natural gas distribution main along W. 54th Street. The next step of work involves connecting the new main to the existing mains along the streets intersecting W. 54th Street.
During the week of August 22, crews from CenterPoint Energy began work at the intersection of W. 54th Street and Humboldt Avenue S., working their way east toward the intersection of W. 54th Street and Colfax Avenue S.

The crews anticipate that they will finish their work along W. 54th Street in approximately two or three more weeks. CenterPoint Energy will continue to send updates on the progress of construction.

8/17/2016 Update

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, will be finished installing the upgraded natural gas distribution main by approximately August 17 or 18. After the installation, the crews will connect the new main to the existing mains intersecting the streets along W. 54th Street.

In the meantime, the city of Minneapolis is doing a paving project on W. 54th Street. ​For more information on Minneapolis’ project, please vi​sit their website​

W. 54th Street will remain closed to thru traffic between Lyndale Avenue S. and Penn Avenue S. until approximately the end of September. A detour leads drivers back onto W. 54th Street via Lyndale Avenue S., W. 50th Street and Penn Avenue S.​ CenterPoint Energy wants to thank you for your patience. Thank you.


8/9/2016 Update

During the weeks of August 8 and August 14, crews from CenterPoint Energy will be working westbound past Newton Avenue crossing Oliver Avenue and ending between Penn Avenue and Oliver Avenue. The crews will be finished installing the new natural gas distribution main until August 17, construction pending.

W. 54th Street will remain closed from Lyndale Avenue to Penn Avenue with no thru traffic allowed. There is storm sewer and water main work going on in addition. 



8/1/2016 Update

During the week of August 1 to 6, crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor from CenterPoint Energy, will be working west on W. 54th Street from Newton Avenue S. to Penn Avenue S.
 
In this week, W. 54th Street will remain closed from Penn Avenue S. to Lyndale Avenue S. due to both Michels’ work and a sewer contractor’s work from Lyndale Avenue S. to Humboldt Avenue S.
 
Crews from Michels estimate approximately two to three weeks for completing this phase of the project. Afterward, the next phase will include installing service lines from residential houses to the natural gas distribution main (date is yet to be determined). The city of Minneapolis will restore the blacktop roads.

7/19/2016 Update

Where is CenterPoint Energy's construction?​

For the week of July 18 to 22, crews from CenterPoint Energy will be installing a 24-inch steel main from James Avenue S. heading west to Logan Avenue S. Some access will be available to W. 54th Street to the east and west of this area.



7/12/2016 Update

What is CenterPoint Energy doing?

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are working on W. 54th Street at Humbolt Avenue S. and will be working to Irving Avenue S. during the week of July 11.​

What will this mean for residents?

There will be some access on W. 54th Street from the east and west unless the road contractors have some road closings.

The scope of the project is expected to end approximately in August 2016. Some sections of the project may be finished before other sections.​



6/28/2016 Update​

What is CenterPoint Energy doing?

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are installing a 24-inch natural gas distribution main along W. 54th Street in Minneapolis.

Starting next Tuesday, there will be hard closures from Humboldt Avenue S. to Fremont Avenue S. from July 5 till July 15. There will be no parking in that three-block radius.

Crews have completed installing the 24-inch pipe from Dupont Avenue S. to Lyndale Avenue S. By the end of the week crews should be done from Fremont Avenue S. to Dupont Avenue S.

What will this mean for residents?

In the meantime until construction is done, crews will have residents’ driveways backfilled from Fremont Avenue S. to Dupont Avenue S. so that residents can get in and out starting at 8:30 p.m. every night.

The driveways will be open at night. By 7 a.m. the crews will begin work every morning until construction is done. 


6/6/2016 Update

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, are continuing their work along W. 54th Street.

Please be advised that CenterPoint Energy will be working in conjunction with the City of Minneapolis' total street reconstruction project.

 


5/4/2016 Update

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, are currently working at each intersection from Aldrich Avenue S. to Humboldt Avenue S. along W. 54th Street.

Tomorrow, Thursday, May 5, crews will finish construction at the final intersection, Humboldt Avenue S.

On Monday, May 9, residents along W. 52nd Street can anticipate crews to begin installing pipeline along the south side of W. 52nd Street, between Morgan Avenue S. and Humboldt Avenue S. Construction along W. 52nd Street will continue for approximately four days, weather permitting.

During the week of May 16, crews will return back to 54th Street W. to continue working at each intersection between Irving Avenue S. and Penn Avenue S. Traffic will be maintained in both directions.
