Project Status - Minneapolis - 4th Street SE
Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, finished construction on the 4th Street SE project from 29th Avenue SE to 27th Avenue SE. They began the project on May 23 and finished on June 28.

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, installed natural gas mains along 4th Street SE from 29th Avenue SE to 27th Avenue SE. They began the project on May 23.
Starting the week of June 5, the crews will continue installing natural gas mains westbound from 27th Avenue SE to 25th Avenue SE along 4th Street SE. This section will be the final part for Phase 1 of installing the gas main. The final part of installation will take from three to four weeks to complete.
What is CenterPoint Energy doing for construction?
Crews from CenterPoint Energy will begin replacing an existing natural gas pipeline in Minneapolis the week of May 22, 2017, prior to the start of the City of Minneapolis's 4th Street SE Reconstruction Project
. CenterPoint Energy's construction is expected to last until the week of June 12. (Frequent updates will be posted on this Project Status page.) Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will begin installing natural gas mains along 4th Street SE from 25th Avenue SE to 29th Avenue SE.
What are the traffic control plans?
Parking and lane restrictions are required in areas where construction activity is occurring and is necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. Two-way traffic will be maintained on 4th Street SE. Traffic flow will be maintained by traffic control personnel. For the first half of the gas main installation, the crews will close the westbound lanes on 4th Street SE and reopen when the main is installed there. For the second half of the gas main installation, they will close the eastbound lanes on 4th Street SE and reopen when the main is installed there.
Construction will happen in two phases:
- Phase 1 is installing the natural gas distribution main.
- Phase 2 is restoring the areas affected by construction—typically the utility easement, the street, and the customer’s yard.
