What is CenterPoint Energy doing for construction?

In the 2016 construction season, CenterPoint Energy completed the installation of new natural gas mains and connected natural gas service lines along 26th Avenue S. from E. 22nd Street to E. Lake Street in Minneapolis. In the 2017 construction season, crews from CenterPoint Energy will return to grout the inside of the existing pipeline along the same construction route.

Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will begin this project in the week of May 15, 2017. Project construction is expected to last until the middle or end of June 2017. (Frequent updates will be posted on this Project Status page.)

How may construction affect customers?

Lane restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring. The lane restrictions are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.

9/1/2016 Update

What is CenterPoint Energy doing?

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, will begin construction on the new natural gas pipeline along 26th Avenue S. from E. 22nd Street to E. Lake Street in Minneapolis about the week of September 12. The construction is expected to last through the end of the 2016 construction season. The crews are installing about 4,600 feet of natural gas distribution main along the east side of 26th Avenue S. from E. 22nd Street to E. 26th Street, and along the west side of 26th Avenue S. from E. 26th Street to E. Lake Street.

What do "gas service lines" mean for residents?

In addition to the main installation, the crews will be connecting about 60 existing gas service lines to the gas main. (A gas service line is a small pipe connecting the resident’s gas to the main line in the street.) Customers will experience a short disruption of gas service and will be coordinated with the customer. Crews may have to dig in some residents’ properties to achieve this task. If a resident’s property is disturbed, CenterPoint Energy will be responsible for restoring the hard and soft surfaces affected by construction. This service and restoration work for this project is at no cost to the customer.

What will the traffic plans be?

The project’s traffic control will happen in roughly two phases. Phase 1 will have a southbound traffic closed on 26th Avenue S. between E. 26th Street and E. Lake Street for about five weeks. Phase 2 will have the northbound traffic closed on 26th Avenue S. from E. 22nd Street to E. 26th Street for about five weeks. Driveway access will be maintained at all times unless scheduled with property owner.
