By June 5, 2018, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, had installed 100 percent of the natural gas main for CenterPoint Energy’s “23rd Avenue N. and Logan Avenue N.” project.

Crews from Q3 Contracting, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, have restored the hard surfaces affected by Michels Corporation’s construction. Today they are restoring the soft surfaces affected by our construction. By tomorrow on Wednesday, June 13, the crews will have removed the traffic signs associated with our work.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, has installed 100 percent of the natural gas main for CenterPoint Energy’s “23rd Avenue N. and Logan Avenue N.” project.

Crews from Q3 Contracting, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s construction. Restoration is scheduled to be finished by Friday, June 22. When restoration is complete, the traffic signs associated with Q3 Contracting’s work will be removed.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, has installed 98 percent of the natural gas main for CenterPoint Energy’s “23rd Avenue N. and Logan Avenue N.” project. In the 5/22/2018 update published below, the traffic control plans and construction progress will remain the same. 



5/22/2018
Crews from CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, have installed 91 percent of the natural gas main for CenterPoint Energy’s “23rd Avenue N. and Logan Avenue N.” project. Below are the construction details for this update:

  • From Tuesday, May 29, to approximately Friday, June 8, the crews will fully close 23rd Avenue N. between Queen Avenue N. and Penn Avenue N. to complete the pipe installation. Detour signs will be posted on site. Drivers will be able to drive north and south on Queen Avenue N. and Penn Avenue N.
  • Crews from Q3 Contracting, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s construction when Michels Corporation is finished with its work. Restoration is scheduled to be finished by Friday, June 22. When restoration is complete, the traffic signs associated with Q3 Contracting’s work will be removed.

CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, has installed 66 percent of the natural gas main for CenterPoint Energy’s “23rd Avenue N. and Logan Avenue N.” project. In the 5/9/2018 update published below, the traffic control plans and construction progress will remain the same. 


5/9/2018
CenterPoint Energy is making progress on its “23rd Avenue N. and Logan Avenue N.” project. Below are the construction details for this update:

  • Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, have installed 44 percent of the natural gas main for this project.
  • The crews have closed Logan Avenue N. between W. Broadway Avenue and Willow Avenue N. Tomorrow on Wednesday, May 9, the crews will close up to Hillside Avenue N. On Monday, May 14, the crews will close up to 25th Avenue N. This traffic plan will last until Friday, June 8. Detour signs will be posted on site.
  • Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on W. Broadway Avenue at Logan Avenue N. Drivers will still be able to go north and south on W. Broadway Avenue during the aforementioned construction. This traffic plan will last for three weeks. 


4/25/2018
CenterPoint Energy’s “23rd Avenue N. and Logan Avenue N.” project is making progress. Below are the construction details for this update:

  • As of Tuesday, April 24, crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, have installed 25 percent of the natural gas main for this project.
  • The intersection of 23rd Avenue N. and Penn Avenue N. is currently being restored with blacktop. This work should be completed by Friday, April 27. Two-way traffic is being maintained on Penn Avenue N.
  • The crews are currently installing new gas main on 23rd Avenue N., working east toward Oliver Avenue N.
  • The construction zone on 23rd Avenue N. between Queen Avenue N. and Oliver Avenue N. is open to local residents only. It is closed to through traffic until road restoration is completed. The estimated completion date for blacktop work is mid-May 2018. Restoration is being coordinated with the City of Minneapolis.
  • Within the first week of May, the crews will be installing new gas main into the intersection of West Broadway and Logan Avenue N. two-way traffic will be maintained on West Broadway. Drivers should expect traffic delays throughout this area.


4/10/2018

CenterPoint Energy crews began construction on the 23rd Avenue N. and Logan Avenue N. project in Minneapolis on Monday, April 2. Below are the construction details:

  • During the week of April 2, the crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, excavated the boulevard of 23rd Avenue N. between Queen Avenue N. and Penn Avenue N. to prepare for putting the existing gas main out of service and removing it.
  • During this week of April 9, the crews are excavating the boulevard of Logan Avenue N. at 24th Avenue N. to prepare for putting the existing gas main out of service and removing it. Tomorrow on Wednesday, April 11, the crews will blacktop the excavated surfaces and reopen Logan Avenue N. at 24th Avenue N.
  • Beginning on April 11, the crews will begin removing the existing gas main and installing the new gas main.
  • On Thursday, April 12, the crews will close 23rd Avenue N. from the eastern side of Penn Avenue N. to Oliver Avenue N. It will be closed to through traffic. This closure will last for up to two or three weeks. Residents and businesses will be given access to and from their homes or locations. The crews will be on site to answer any questions and to talk with the residents or customers in person.
  • During ​Saturday, April 14, and Sunday, April 15, the crews will fully close 23rd Avenue N. and Penn Avenue N. The weekend hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. If the crews finish early on a weekend day, they will not work until 7:00 p.m.

What is CenterPoint Energy doing for construction?

Beginning on Monday, April 2, and ending within mid-June 2018, CenterPoint Energy’s contractor, Michels Corporation, will be replacing the natural gas Belt Line system in Minneapolis. This project is a continuation of CenterPoint Energy’s Belt Line project in Minnesota, which began in 2012 and will continue until approximately 2021. The affected streets will include the following:

  • 23rd Avenue N. from the alley between Queen Avenue N. and Penn Avenue N. to Oliver Avenue N. (Traffic barriers will begin along 23rd Ave. N. at the alley between Russell and Queen Aves. N.)
  • Oliver Avenue N. from 23rd Avenue N. to W. Broadway Avenue.
  • Logan Av​enue N. from W. Broadway Avenue to 24th Avenue N.


What is the estimated schedule and traffic impacts?

  • The crews will start at 23rd Avenue N. and work west toward Logan Avenue N. During the weekend of April 14 and 15, the crews will close the intersection of 23rd Avenue N. and Penn Avenue N. Detour routes will be posted on site.
  • Construction will occur in segments along the construction route, rather than all at once. Lane restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.
  • The c​rews will restore the disturbed areas affected by our work outside the county construction zone. This may consist of lawn restoration and sidewalk or street restoration as work dictates.
