Project Status - Le Center - Sharon Street Neighborhood

CenterPoint Energy is progressing in its Sharon Street Neighborhood project. Below are the construction details:

  • Crews from CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, installed the natural gas mains for this project by August 10, 2018.
  • Since August 15, the crews have been connecting natural gas service lines to the installed mains. Currently they have completed the connections on all the project’s streets from Minnesota Street to Ottawa Street. The crews will be completing the rest of the connections south of Ottawa Street.
  • CenterPoint Energy’s construction is suspended on Monday, September 3, in honor of Labor Day. Construction will resume on Tuesday, September 4.

Where, when, and why is CenterPoint Energy performing construction?

Beginning on Monday, July 16, and ending in late September 2018, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, Michels Corporation, will be replacing natural gas mains and connecting natural gas service lines to the installed mains in Le Center along the following streets:

  • Park Avenue S. between Sharon Street and Derrynane Street (Highway 99)
  • Waterville Avenue S. between Sharon Street and Derrynane Street
  • Montgomery Avenue S. between Ottawa Street and Derrynane Street
  • Sharon Street between Lexington Avenue S. and Montgomery Avenue
  • OttawaStreet between Park Avenue S. and Sunrise Avenue S.
  • Lanesburgh Street between Park Avenue S. and Cordova Avenue S.
  • Derrynane Street between Lexington Avenue S. and Cordova Avenue S.

What are the estimated traffic impacts?

  • Residents and local businesses will have access to their properties at all times.
  • Construction will occur in segments along the construction route, rather than all at once. Lane restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring and are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.
  • Crews from Q3 Contracting, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will restore the areas affected by CenterPoint Energy’s construction—typically the utility easement, the street, and the customer’s yard.

How may the natural gas service line installations affect customers?

As part of this main project, the crews will be replacing several natural gas service lines that connect from the main to the customer’s property. Customers will experience a short disruption of gas service as the crews are installing the gas service line.

Crews may have to dig in the ground on your property in the utility easement to complete the task of service and main distribution line replacement. If a customer’s property is disturbed, CNP will restore the hard and soft surfaces affected by construction at no cost to you.
