11/14/2016 Update

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, are installing a new regulator station on Jorgen Avenue (County Road 47). The station helps direct the pressure of natural gas at the intersection of the newly-installed natural gas distribution main (that runs from Jorgen Avenue to Cannon Street along W. 31st Street) and the existing main that runs along Jorgen Avenue.

After installing the regulator station on Jorgen Avenue, the crews plan to connect the newly-installed main to the existing main on Cannon Street.

The crews anticipate finishing the W. 31st Street project by approximately Thanksgiving. By then, they anticipate restoring the last of the areas affected by construction.

11/7/2016 Update

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, have installed 100 percent of the new natural gas distribution main.
Next, the crews are installing new regulator stations at either end of the new main. One station is at the intersection of W. 31st Street and Cannon Street. The other station is on Jorgen Avenue (County Road 47).

Restoration has been completed in the areas affected by construction, except for both ends of the main. The remaining work will last approximately until the end of November or early December, depending on weather and the availability of resources. Here is a brief list of the remaining work:

  • Installing the new regulator stations

  • Connecting the new main to the intersecting mains on Cannon Street and Jorgen Avenue

  • Restoring the areas affected by the last of construction

10/31/2016 Update

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, plan to finish the W. 31st Street project in Hastings in approximately a few weeks, construction pending. The schedule below is subject to change due to construction:

Village Trail: The hard- and soft-surface restoration on Village Trail between Teal Way and Sherman Way is expected to be finished within mid-afternoon of Tuesday, November 1, construction pending. The closure signs are expected to be removed when the crews have finished restoration.

Natural Gas Distribution Main: The crews have installed about 90 percent of the natural gas distribution main from Jorgen Avenue (County Road 47) to Cannon Street. They are now installing a new regulator station at the intersection of Cannon Street and W. 31st Street. The station helps direct the pressure of natural gas within the main.

Restoration: Restoration of the hard and soft surfaces is complete except for the area around the regulator station, the newly-installed main, and Village Trail. By about Tuesday, November 1, Village Trail will have been restored. The other areas affected by construction will be restored after the crews are done.

After installing the main, the crews plan to connect the new main to the existing mains intersecting Jorgen Avenue and Cannon Street. They will also install new regulator stations on either side of the new main. These stations will direct the pressure of gas within the mains. The installation is expected to take a few weeks, construction pending. There are no anticipated lane closures.

In the meantime, crews from Q3, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, will restore the concrete and blacktop surfaces on Village Trail between Teal Way and Sherman Way during the week of October 24. They plan to finish restoration by about October 28 or 31 and reopen Village Trail.

CenterPoint Energy wants to apologize for the unexpected delay. A traffic detour will lead drivers onto Teal Way, Riverwood Drive, and Sherman Way. In the meantime, restoration is being completed on the areas affected by construction between Cannon Street and Village Trail.

After the construction on Village Trail is done, the crews plan to work between Village Trail and Jorgen Avenue (County Road 47). The final step will include connecting the new main to the regulator station at Cannon Street after the main is installed from Cannon Street to Jorgen Avenue.

CenterPoint Energy wants to thank the residents and customers for their patience. CenterPoint Energy’s construction is scheduled ahead of time but is subject to change according to weather and the pace of construction.

8/24/2016 Update

Where, when and what is CenterPoint Energy's construction?

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, will begin construction on the new natural gas pipe along W. 31st Street in Hastings during the week of August 29.

The construction is expected to take approximately two months. The crews are installing about 9,000 feet of natural gas distribution main along W. 31st Street from Highview Drive to Jorgen Avenue (County Road 47), going between Teal Way and Sherman Way. (See map below.)

CenterPoint Energy will be boring the pipe underneath the soil’s surface. Existing gas service lines will be connected to the gas main. (A gas service line is a small pipe connecting the resident’s gas to the main line in the street.) Customers will experience a short disruption of gas service.

What does this mean for residents along W. 31st Street?

Crews may have to dig in some residents’ properties in the utility easement to achieve this task. If a resident’s property is disturbed, CenterPoint Energy will be responsible for restoring the hard and soft surfaces affected by construction. This is at no cost to the customer or resident of the construction area.

CenterPoint Energy wants to thank you for your patience. For specific timeline on the construction area, please call our Information Hotline. For general construction questions about the project, please call our Communication Specialist, Hannah Gullickson, at 612-321-5546.
