Golden Valley - Golden Valley Road and Bassett Creek
Scheduled Start Date: April 3, 2017
What is CenterPoint Energy doing for construction?
CenterPoint Energy will begin replacing a natural gas distribution pipeline Monday, April 3. The project consists of two phases as highlighted on the attached map; only Phase One will be constructed at this time. Phase One is anticipated to be complete by early May 2017, weather permitting. CenterPoint Energy’s work is being completed prior to the start of a Hennepin County project involving Golden Valley Road in the area of Bassett Creek Drive and Bonnie Lane.
What are the traffic and detour plans?
Lane restrictions on Golden Valley Road are required when construction activity is occurring on the roadway and is necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe. The crews will be closing Golden Valley Road (County Road 66) between Mary Hills Drive and Bassett Creek Drive from April 17 to April 23. Advanced warning signs will be placed ahead of the construction site starting Monday, April 10.
Detour signs will be placed for the construction site as well. Drivers traveling eastbound on Golden Valley Road will be directed south on Highway 100, east on Highway 55, and then north on Penn Avenue where the detour will end at Golden Valley Road. Drivers traveling westbound on Golden Valley Road will follow the same route back onto Golden Valley Road on the opposite site of the closure.
This construction will happen in two phases:
Minnesota Limited, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, replaced the existing natural gas transmission line associated with Phase One, beginning on Golden Valley Road west of Bassett Creek Drive, and then progressing in the utility right of way located in Theodore Wirth Golf Course. The crews have restored the roadways, soft surfaces and areas affected by construction (right of way).
Phase Two, as highlighted on the map below, will occur in the utility right of way in Theodore Wirth Golf Course, between Bonnie Lane to Theodore Wirth Parkway and Glenwood Parkway, and along Theodore Wirth Parkway from the railroad to Zenith Avenue N. CenterPoint Energy has scheduled Phase Two to occur in the 2018 construction season. A separate notice will be sent out and updates will be posted on CenterPoint Energy’s website closer to Phase Two’s start date.
