9/16/2016 Update

Crews from CenterPoint Energy have finished installing all the feet of the natural gas distribution main, including the 600-feet addition on York Avenue S. The final step is restoring the hard and soft surfaces along the areas affected by construction. Restoration is being completed based on weather and may be finished by approximately the end of September 2016.

9/6/2016 Update

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are progressing in their work on the York Avenue S. project. An additional 600 feet of natural gas distribution main will be installed on W. 76th Street going west from York Avenue S.

Due to weather, the crews will most likely begin their work on September 7 or 8 and continue until about September 13 or 14. This work is in conjunction with the York Avenue S. beltline project from W. 69th Street to W. 76th Street.

While the crews are working, the following traffic control plans will be put in place:

  • The right-turn lane from southbound York Avenue S. to westbound W. 76th Street will be closed.
  • The left-turn lane from northbound York Avenue S. to westbound W. 76th Street will be closed.

There are no total closures expected during this project. The rest of the York Avenue S. project is on schedule to be completed at the respective times in September 2016. See below for a full list of details.



9/2/2016 Update

Additional traffic control for France Avenue S. will take place from CenterPoint Energy’s crews in the month of September 2016:

  • From W. 70th Street to W. 76th Street on northbound France Avenue S., there will be a single lane from today, September 2, to Tuesday, September 6.
  • After September 6, from Hazelton Road to W. 76th Street on France Avenue S., there will be single lanes until about September 14.
  • ​From September 12 to September 16, there will be construction taking place on W. 76th Street between France Avenue S. and York Avenue S. Some lane shifts will occur, but no total closure.
For the holiday weekend, all traffic control will be removed on W. 69th Street, W. 70th Street and Valley View Road. 


9/2/2016 Update

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are nearing completion on the York Avenue S. project. The natural gas distribution main has been installed. The final step in the process includes the restoration of the hard and soft surfaces, which the crews are currently working on.

York Avenue S.

During the week of August 29, the crews closed the median lanes on York Avenue S. between Parklawn Avenue and W. 76th Street. Traffic was reduced to single lanes going north and south while the crews were restoring the hard and soft surfaces.

W. 69th Street and France Avenue S.

The intersection of W. 69th Street and France Avenue S. had a single-lane closure during the week of August 29. The crews anticipate opening the intersection by the week of Labor Day.

W. 76th Street

Crews from CenterPoint Energy have installed the natural gas distribution main on W. 76th Street and have been finishing their project there between York Avenue S. and Penn Avenue S. The city of Richfield will take over the remaining work, which includes restoring the roads. ​


8/18/2016 Update

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are progressing in their work on the York Avenue S. project in Edina:

France Avenue S.

The intersection of W. 69th Street and France Avenue S. is open. After the Susan G. Komen Twin Cities 3-Day race​, the crews will return to tie in the 16-inch pipe and restore the road once they’re finished.

Currently there is one right lane closed on France Avenue between W. 69th Street and W. 70th Street.

York Avenue S.

The roundabout on York Avenue S. is finished.

The median lanes on York Avenue S between W. 70th Street and W. 76th Street are closed until approximately the week of August 29, construction pending.
W. 76th Street remains closed until September 2 before Labor Day. A detour leads drivers back onto W. 76th Street via York Avenue S. or Penn Avenue S. 
and W. 78th Street or W. American Boulevard.​


8/12/2016 Update

Crews from Michels Corporation and Q3, authorized contractors from CenterPoint Energy, will be closing and reopening the following lanes on their respective dates: ​

Valley View Road and W. 69th Street

This Saturday, August 13, the crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor from CenterPoint Energy, will be cleaning the main pipe at the corner of Valley View Road and W. 69th Street.

From now until about August 24, there will be a single lane going southbound from W. 69th Street to Valley View Road. By then, crews from Q3 will have paved the blacktop road. ​

France Avenue S. and W. 69th Street

Drivers coming westbound onto W. 69th Street from southbound France Avenue S. will be unable to turn right onto W. 69th Street. The crews will start paving the lane today on August 12.

The lane will be closed until approximately Monday, August 15, construction pending. In the meantime, a detour will lead drivers westbound toward W. 69th Street onto France Avenue S., W. 66th Street and Valley View Road.

Crews from Michels are working in the median on W. 69th Street between France Avenue S. and York Avenue S. There is no traffic obstruction except for the inner left lane going westbound toward France Avenue S., but drivers can still make a left or right turn onto France Avenue S. from W. 69th Street.

York Avenue S.

Between Hazelton Road and W. 76th Street, York Avenue S. is reduced to single lanes going north and south. Drivers can’t make a U-turn at the intersection of W. 76th Street and York Avenue S. when coming from York Avenue S.

W. 76th Street

Currently, the westbound lane on W. 76th Street is closed between York Avenue S. and Penn Avenue S. All the residential intersections along W. 76th Street between York and Penn are also closed.

Beginning August 15, both the eastbound and westbound lanes on W. 76th Street will remain closed until approximately September 2 before Labor Day.

CenterPoint Energy’s detour will lead drivers from W. 76th Street southward to American Boulevard W. via York Avenue S. or Penn Avenue S. Residents can also use W. 78th Street as a detour.



8/3/2016 Update

Crews from Michels Corporation and Q3, authorized contractors from CenterPoint Energy, will be closing and reopening the following lanes on their respective dates:

W. 69th Street and France Avenue S.

The right-turn lane from France Avenue S. onto W. 69th Street will remain closed for the next two weeks, but it will be temporarily opened for the Susan G. Komen Twin Cities 3-Day race​ which will happen from August 19 to 21.

The crews will reclose the intersection near the end of August or the first week of September, when they’ll tie in the existing pipe to the newly upgraded pipe that lies near the intersection. The tie-in process will take approximately two days, and restoring the concrete and blacktop roads will take an additional week.

Roundabout and York Avenue S.

Crews from Q3, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, restored the curb and gutter on York Avenue S. from the bridge south of the York Avenue S. roundabout to W. 76th Street. The pavement is being restored block by block and should be finished by the week of August 8.

Parklawn Avenue and York Avenue S.

The intersection of Parklawn Avenue and York Avenue S. opens about August 12 or 15. By then, the crews will have finished laying down the concrete on the left-turn lane from York Avenue S. to Parklawn Avenue.

W. 76th Street and York Avenue S.

  • Starting August 8, one northbound lane will be closed on York Avenue S.
  • Starting August 8, the westbound lane on W. 76th Street will be closed from York Avenue S. to Penn Avenue S.
  • The eastbound lane on W. 76th Street will be closed on August 26 from York Avenue S. to Penn Avenue S., depending on when the northbound lane on York Avenue S. will be opened.

7/29/2016 Update

Crews from CenterPoint Energy have an estimated date for the opening of the closure on W. 69th Street and France Avenue S. in Edina.

The left-turn lane going southbound onto France Avenue S. from W. 69th Street will be open after 5:00 p.m. tonight on Friday, July 29. Traffic should have access through that portion of the intersection.​

7/27/2016 Update

York Avenue S. Roundabout

The roundabout on York Avenue S. is open and finished with restoration.

York Avenue S. and Parklawn Avenue

From Hazelton Road to Parklawn Avenue, York Avenue S. will have single lanes going northbound and southbound. Parklawn will have a few lanes closed starting Wednesday, July 27, for approximately two weeks, including restoration.

Drivers can go northbound and southbound on York Avenue S. in that area. Those coming eastbound from Parklawn Avenue to York Avenue S. can make a right turn onto York Avenue S., but not a left turn. Those coming onto Parklawn Avenue from southbound York Avenue S. can make a right turn, but those coming from northbound York Avenue S. can't make a left turn onto Parklawn Avenue.​

W. 69th Street and France Avenue S.

The closure on the intersection of W. 69th Street and France Avenue S. will remain the same. Drivers going southbound on France Avenue S. will not be able to turn right onto W. 69th Street, but drivers coming out of W. 69th Street can still go eastbound.

W. 76th Street and York Avenue S.

The closures on W. 76th Street and York Avenue S. remain the same for approximately the next two or three weeks.​ Check out the 7/20/2016 update below for details on lane closures.


7/20/2016 Update

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are continuing construction southward on Edina’s York Avenue S. project. Below is a detailed list of road closures and detours:

W. 69th Street and France Avenue S.

There is a road closure at W. 69th Street and France Avenue S. Drivers can’t turn onto W. 69th Street going westbound, but they can come out of W. 69th Street going eastbound.

York Avenue S.

York Avenue S. is finished with construction at the intersections of W. 69th Street, W. 70th Street and Hazelton Road.

Crews are blacktopping the southbound turn lane on the York Avenue S. roundabout. Currently drivers cannot make a full U-turn on the roundabout but can only turn northbound onto it if they intend to make a southbound U-turn.

The sidewalk on the northbound east side of York Avenue S. is closed from Hazelton Road to Parklawn Avenue. There is a detour leading pedestrians to walk on the southbound west side of York Avenue S.

W. 76th Street and York Avenue S.

At the intersection of W. 76th Street and York Avenue S., the northbound lane onto York Avenue S. and the right-turn lane from W. 76th Street to northbound York Avenue S. will be closed.

If drivers going westbound on W. 76th Street wish to enter York Avenue S. going northbound, a detour will lead them westbound to France Avenue S., northbound to Parklawn Avenue, and eastbound to York Avenue S.

From W. 76th Street to the York Avenue S. roundabout, the inside lanes on York Avenue S. will be closed for the next three weeks starting the week of July 18 to 22. The crews will place four-way stop signs at the intersection of Parklawn Avenue and York Avenue S. By the end of three weeks, the crews should be done with restoration. ​


7/14/2016 Update

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are predicting the following tentative dates for finishing construction projects in Edina’s York Avenue S., France Avenue S. and W. 69th Street areas:
 
  • Valley View Road, W. 69th Street and France Avenue S. should be completed by the end of August or the first week of September, including restoration.
  • York Avenue S. should be completed by August 26, including restoration.
  • Valley View and W. 70th Street should have the existing pipe tied into the new pipe by September 16, including restoration.
  • ​During the month of September, the existing 24-inch steel main pipe will be abandoned on France Avenue S. from W. 70th Street to W. 76th Street.
This purposed schedule is subject to change based weather and the projects’ progression.


7/13/2016 Update​

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are currently progressing in the following streets in Edina’s York Avenue S., France Avenue S. and W. 69th Street. The entire project is expected to last until approximately September 2016. During that time, some sections of the project may be complete before other sections:

York Avenue S.

Crews are finishing blocks of York Avenue S. as they progress southward. They have finished the intersections of W. 69th Street, W. 70th Street and Hazelton Road.
 
There will be a closure at Parklawn Avenue and York Avenue S. beginning the week of July 25 and lasting for no more than three days. Both the inside lanes going north and south will be closed where the crews will place their equipment.

W. 69th Street

The eastbound lane on W. 69th Street is closed and would be open to traffic by August 19. The closure will run from France Avenue S. to Valley View Road.
 
There are currently two lanes open on W. 69th Street. After restoration is finished, there will be three lanes open. Those three lanes will include two through lanes and the westbound lane onto W. 69th Street.

France Avenue S.

From France Avenue S. to York Avenue S., W. 69th Street is open. On France Avenue S., the southbound left-turn lane onto W. 69th Street is open. ​


7/6/2016 Update

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are currently progressing in the following streets in Edina’s York Avenue S. and France Avenue S.:

York Avenue S. will have a northbound lane closure for approximately the next three weeks between Parklawn Avenue and Hazelton Road. The rest of York Avenue S. is open.

There will be a southbound lane closure on France Avenue S. at the intersection of W. 69th Street and France Avenue S. during the weeks of July 4 and 11. ​



6/23/2016 Update

Crews from CenterPoint Energy are continuing construction on York Avenue S. and France Avenue S.
 
The intersection on Hazelton Road and York Avenue S. is open. Crews are moving southward on York Avenue S.
 
Southbound on France Avenue S. will be partially closed for approximately five weeks starting this Monday, June 27. The intersections of W. 69th Street and W. 70th Street along France Avenue S. will have partial lane closures.​



6/10/2016 Update

At the intersection of W. 69th Avenue and York Avenue S., the eastbound left-turn lane will be closed from June 10 until next Friday, June 17, for restoration.


6/10/2016 Update

What will CenterPoint Energy be doing?​

Crews from CenterPoint Energy will be installing a gas pipeline on York Avenue S. between W. 69th Street and W. 76th Street. Between June 13 and 25, crews will be working on the intersection of Hazelton Road and York Avenue S.

How can I access the shopping malls on Hazelton Road?

If drivers wish to enter the Yorktown Shopping Mall on Hazelton Road, there will be a detour and closed lanes in the following lanes:

  • York Avenue S. will have one lane open going north and south between W. 70th St. and Hazelton Road.

Drivers going to the Yorktown Shopping Mall will be able to access it on York Avenue S. going south and not north.

  • Drivers going south on York Avenue will make a right turn onto Hazelton.

Below is the detour if drivers are heading north:

  • Drivers cannot make a left turn onto Hazelton Road. There will be a detour directing them left onto W. 70th Street, left onto France Avenue S., then left onto Hazelton Road​.

Businesses along Hazelton Road should not expect any crew to be working directly outside their properties.​

How far is CenterPoint Energy's progress?

Crews from CenterPoint Energy opened the intersection on York Avenue S. and W. 70th St. on June 9 at 3:00 p.m. The intersection will remain open.


6/9/2016 Update

Shoppers and drivers can expect the following detours near the Galleria in Edina:

  • York Avenue S. from W. 69th Street to W. 70th Street will have two lanes open going north and south.
    • From W. 70th Street to Hazelton Road going north and south will be reduced to a single lane.
    • Intersection of York Avenue S. and 69th Street W. will be restored and 69th Street W. will be open to two-lane traffic in each direction by 6/9.
    • Hazelton Road will be closed on the 6/13 for 10 to 12 days.
  • York Avenue S. and W. 69th Street eastbound turn lane will be closed for repaving and will be open for traffic by 6/9 afternoon.
  • York Avenue S. and W. 70th Street eastbound will be repaved and reopened to two-way traffic by 6/9 afternoon.
  • York Avenue S. and Hazelton Road are closed in both directions on 6/13.
  • France Avenue S. and W. 69th Street – westbound left turn lane closed for 5 weeks during construction.
    • Eastbound lane of through traffic will be maintained.
    • Westbound traffic on W. 69th Street is closed past France Avenue S.
    • Cars are still able to make a left turn onto France in the eastbound lane of W. 69th Street.
  • Valley View and W. 69th Street restoration of pavement to begin 6/13.

 

CenterPoint Energy will send future updates about when certain roads will be open for traffic flow from W. 70th Street to W. 69th Street on York Avenue S.  ​

5/6/2016 Update

Residents and commuters in the area will notice crews temporarily restoring and cleaning the streets today in preparation for this Sunday's Race for Cure!

In the meantime, please anticipate Valley View Road, from West 70th Street to West 69th Street to continue to be closed through next week. An additional email will be sent when Valley View Road is scheduled to reopen.

In the near future, southbound York Avenue S. is scheduled to close between West 69th Street and West 70th Street. Stay tuned for additional details early next week.

Good news for travelers along West 70th Street in Edina!

  • At 6:00 p.m. tonight, the West 70th Street and Valley View Road roundabout will be open to traffic.
  • Beginning tomorrow morning, Valley View Road, from West 70th Street to West 69th Street will be closed for the next three weeks, weather permitting.

What's the status for construction along West 69th Street?

  • One lane of traffic remains open in both directions along West 69th Street as crews continue working toward York Avenue S.
  • By the end of next week, crews will be near the intersection of West 69th Street and York Avenue S. Stay tuned for updates for potential traffic restrictions at this intersection.

4/8/2016 Update​

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will begin a four and a half month long project along various streets in eastern Edina on Monday, April 11.

On Monday, April 11, residents and commuters can anticipate construction crews to start at two locations.

Location 1: The roundabout at West 70th Street and Valley View Road

  • Crews will begin installing 24-inch natural gas pipeline at the southwest corner of the roundabout.
  • Eastbound West 70th Street will be closed, just east of Bristol Boulevard through approximately Wednesday, April 13 or Thursday, April 14. Please follow the posted detour.
  • Once eastbound West 70th Street reopens, westbound West 70th Street will close as crews begin installing 24-inch natural gas pipeline at the northwest corner of the roundabout. Eastbound West 70th Street is anticipated to remain closed through approximately Friday, April 22. Please follow the posted detour.

Location 2: West 69th Street

  • Crews will begin installing 24-inch natural gas pipeline eastwards along median of West 69th Street, between France Avenue S. and York Avenue S.
  • West 69th Street traffic will be reduced to one driving lane in each direction with the southernmost westbound lane and northernmost eastbound lane closing. Construction in this area will continue in this area for approximately three to four weeks, weather permitting.
