This week, a crew from Michels Corporation, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractor, began replacing the natural gas main under the sidewalk and yards of Monterey and Lynn Avenues between 40th and 42nd Streets W. They anticipate that the main replacement on these roads will take approximately two weeks. During this time, parking will be restricted on both sides of the roads.

Another Michels Corporation crew began moving inside meters outside by appointment and replacing or reconnecting service lines to the new main. For customers with inside meters, the crews will contact residents to schedule two- to three-hour appointments. When choosing the meter’s outdoor placement, consider limitations such as three feet away from doors, windows, and vents. Inform the crew of any lines you installed such as sprinklers or dog fences.

Temporary backfill will occur after the gas work is done. Q3 Contracting will permanently restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. On boulevards and lawns, they will refill the areas with black dirt, grass seed, and netting that degrades over about four months. Prior to mowing the restored area, remove any loose staples that secured the blanket.

What will CenterPoint Energy do?

For approximately two months beginning on Monday, April 24, CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors will work along select streets in the Morningside Neighborhood in Edina. Equix Integrity updates our records on the locations of sewer lines in relation to natural gas lines. Michels Corporation will replace a natural gas main, move inside meters to the outside of homes, and replace or reconnect service lines as needed. Q3 Contracting will restore the areas affected by Michels Corporation’s work. There will be no assessment or cost associated with our work.
