Phase 1

On Friday, April 21, crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, finished installing new natural gas mains in the eastern half of the project (between 60th Avenue N. and Bass Lake Road, and between Regent Avenue N. and Twin Lake Terrace N.). This is Phase 1 of 3 in the construction project.

For the next two weeks until about May 12, the crews will be installing gas mains in the northwestern part of the project, which is between 62nd Avenue N. and 60th Avenue N., and between Bottineau Boulevard (County Road 81) and Douglas Drive N. near the Crystal airport.

Currently, the crews are installing gas mains on 62nd Avenue N. After they’re finished with 62nd Avenue N., they will move onto Douglas Drive N., Florida Avenue N., 61st Avenue N., 60th Avenue N. and Lombardy Lane. When the Phase 1 crews are finished installing mains in the northwestern section, the Phase 2 crews will connect the natural gas service lines to the new main.

Phase 2

Michels Corporation will finish Phase 2 within the week of May 8. After the services are complete, crews from Q3, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, will restore the areas affected by construction.

There will be no lane shifts during this project. All work will be done in the utility right of way.

4/13/2017

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, are working on Phases 1 and 2 concurrently. The Phase 2 crews (connecting natural gas service lines to the newly-installed natural gas mains) are following the same route where the Phase 1 crews have installed new natural gas mains.

Currently the Phase 2 crews are working on Orchard and Perry Avenues N. until the end of the week of April 17. By then, they will have finished Phase 2 on these two roads between 60th Avenue N. and 56th Place N. The Phase 2 crews are also working on Regent and Quail Avenues N.

4/11/2017

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, have moved back the end date for construction on the Skyway Park Neighborhood project. Project construction is expected to last until April 28 or early May.

Currently, the crews have removed the lane closure and lane shift at Regent Avenue N. and Bass Lake Road yesterday on Monday, April 10.

The crews will be setting up a lane shift on Bass Lake Road from 58th Avenue N. to 56th Place N. starting tomorrow on Wednesday, April 12. The sidewalk will be closed on the west side of Bass Lake Road. This closure will last for up to four days.

During this new closure, they will be installing new natural gas mains for Phase 1.

4/6/2017

Crews from Michels Corporation, an authorized contractor for CenterPoint Energy, have started working on Phase 2 concurrently while they are working on Phase 1. They began Phase 2 on Tuesday, April 4.

Phase 2 began on Regent Avenue N. and Perry Avenue N. The crews are working south on both streets from 60th Avenue N. to 57th Avenue N. After the crews are done with Regent and Perry Avenues N., they’ll move onto Quail Avenue N. and Orchard Avenue N. for Phase 2.

What is CenterPoint Energy doing for construction?

Crews from CenterPoint Energy will begin replacing an existing natural gas pipeline in Crystal the week of March 20, 2017. Project construction is expected to last until April 14. (Any changes in project dates will be noted on CenterPoint Energy’s website.) Michels Corporation, an authorized CenterPoint Energy contractor, will begin installing natural gas mains along the streets in between County Road 10 (Bass Lake Road and 56th Avenue N.), Bottineau Boulevard, 58th Avenue N. and Vera Cruz Avenue N.

Lane restrictions are anticipated in areas where active construction is occurring. The lane restrictions are necessary to keep both the public and construction personnel safe.

Construction typically happens in three phases:

  • Phase 1 is installing the natural gas distribution main.
  • Phase 2 is connecting the natural gas service lines to the new main along the same construction route. (A gas service line is a small-diameter pipe connecting the customer's gas service to the main line in the street.)
  • Phase 3 is restoring the areas affected by construction--typically the utility easement, the street, and the customer's yard.

How may construction affect customers?

As part of this main project, the crews will also be replacing several natural gas service lines that connect from the main to the customer's property. Customers will experience a short disruption of gas service as the crews are installing the gas service line.

Crews may have to dig in the ground on your property in the utility easement to complete the task of service and main distribution line replacement. If a customer’s property is disturbed, CenterPoint Energy will restore the hard and soft surfaces affected by construction at no cost to you.
