What is CenterPoint Energy doing?

Crews from CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors, Hook’d Up Services, OSI, and TDW, will be performing routine maintenance on the transmission pipe located along Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail at the southwestern corner of Rindahl Court and Tonkawood Road in Minnetonka. The process will begin in early June and last for approximately two weeks.

The process, called pigging, will involve the crews placing smart tools inside the pipe to inspect the pipe’s condition. Per federal regulation, CenterPoint Energy is required to check the condition of its pipes routinely.

During the pigging process, CNP will periodically have to transfer gas from pig traps (above ground structures) back into our system using methane mitigation technology to achieve emission reduction goals. This technology requires the use of air compressor and cross compression technology (Zevac) which can create a loud noise for a short amount of time. The public is advised to stay away from the area of operations, which is adjacent to CenterPoint Energy’s facility. The fire department will be notified prior to any release of gas. Although natural gas odors may be noticed, this is a normal process and considered safe. There is no danger to the public or property.

The residents in this area will always have access to and from their homes, and the homes’ gas lines will remain active. CenterPoint Energy will observe the city ordinance of work hours between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., which most working days will end around 5:30 p.m. For any questions, you can contact us directly by calling Larry Juday, Pipeline Technician, at 612-718-2383. We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing to serve you.

What are the crews anticipated schedule?

Below is the anticipated schedule for CenterPoint Energy’s authorized contractors for the maintenance on CenterPoint Energy’s pipeline.

Late May
In the week of Monday, May 27, crews will mow the right-of-way and remove fencing at Rindahl Court. YTS Tree Service will mow and clear our right-of-way. Sunup Fencing will remove the fence around CenterPoint Energy’s aboveground pipeline structure. No trees will be cut down.

Early June
In the week of Monday, June 3, Gibson Integrity Solutions will set up above ground markers for tool sensing and locating from CenterPoint Energy’s tool launcher site in Carver to CenterPoint Energy’s tool receiver site in Rindahl Court in Minnetonka. Vehicles will have “CenterPoint Energy Authorized Contractor” magnets on them during their activities in the right-of-way.
Q3 Contracting, Hook’d Up Services, and OSI will set up traffic control equipment at Rindahl Court for the tool runs.

On Friday, June 21, they will remove traffic control barriers.

July
In the week of Monday, July 1, Q3 Contracting will reinstall the fence around CenterPoint Energy’s aboveground pipeline structure and begin restoring the soft surfaces affected by the work. Final restoration is expected to be complete by Friday, July 12 or in mid-July. Native plants that were previously planted by homeowners on Rindahl Court will be replanted.

What should Rindahl Court residents expect?

  • The traffic control equipment will be in place for the safety of the workers. All equipment staged on Rindahl Court will be coned off.
  • No parking will be allowed on the south side of Rindahl Court. All residents will have access to their driveways during project.
  • When the crews anticipate the need, they plan to work on weekends.

We thank you for your patience during our work!
