Air sealing and insulation will improve the heating and cooling efficiency of your home all year long. By upgrading your home's attic insulation from R30 to R49 and sealing attic bypasses, you could save over 10% of your energy consumption, saving you money all year long.

This rebate is available to CenterPoint Energy residential natural gas customers who qualify based on the Home Assessment form completed by a certified energy auditor. The following two components will ensure that identified air sealing and insulation improvements are cost effective and eligible for the rebate:

• Home Energy Audit: An inspection and measurement of existing attic insulation and a survey of attic bypasses and venting by a certified* auditor, such as those available from CenterPoint Energy. (*Required)
• Improvement Recommendation: A list of recommended improvements and a work-order for the customer to use when selecting a contractor to provide residential air sealing and insulation.

Air Sealing and Insulation
Professional installation of air sealing and insulation measures as identified by the Home Energy Audit on the Home Assessment Form may include:

• Sealing of attic bypasses
• Adding insulation to appropriate levels

How the program works

1. Request a Home Energy Audit  from a certified auditor, such as those available through CenterPoint Energy.
2. Your auditor should complete the Home Assessment Form.
3. Based on the completed Home Assessment Form, schedule installation of recommended air sealing and insulation measures as identified.
4. Complete the Air Sealing and Insulation Rebate Application. Have your contractor sign the rebate application form. Print the form and complete your information in the required fields.
5. Complete and submit the Air Sealing and Insulation Rebate Application along with the following:
   • Completed Home Assessment Form
   • A copy of the contractor's invoice itemizing measures installed (listing charges for labor and materials separately)
     
     All paperwork and required documentation must be submitted within 90 days of the installation date or postmarked by Dec. 31, 2010, whichever comes first.
