How the Program Works – 3 Easy Steps!
Step 1 – Audit:
Complete a qualifying home energy audit.
Step 2 – Install: Complete professional installation of qualifying upgrade measures.
Step 3 – Apply:  Submit rebate application materials.

More on Step 1: Qualifying Home Energy Audit

Home energy audit must include a blower door test performed by a home energy auditor certified according to Minnesota state requirements. The audit must be completed before the installation of qualifying upgrade measures. Audit results are valid up to three years prior to the completion of installation work. A post-installation blower door test will not satisfy this requirement.

To request a qualifying audit, call CenterPoint Energy at 612.321.5011 or 800.234.5800 x5011 and ask for a $100 Standard Audit, or contact the qualified auditor of your choice. (CenterPoint Energy’s $25 Basic Audit will not satisfy this rebate program requirement.)

More on Step 2: Qualifying Upgrade Measures

Rebate-eligible upgrades must be professionally installed in heated/conditioned areas of the home and may include the following:

  • Sealing of all accessible attic air leaks including but not limited to attic access panel, plumbing and electric bypasses, wall top plates, recessed light fixtures and other attic penetrations.
  • Attic insulation improvements where the pre-existing R-value is R-30 or below AND the post R-value is R-49 or above.
  • Insulation improvements to walls surrounding heated/conditioned rooms ONLY if there is no existing insulation in the walls (pre R-value must be R-0).

Rebate excludes upgrades to new construction, garages, 3-season rooms, basements, rim joists, crawl spaces, sheds, and workshops. Only qualifying material and labor costs should be included on the Residential Air Sealing and Insulation Rebate Application. All upgrade measures must be installed to manufacturer's specifications and must meet all federal, state and local code requirements. This rebate applies only to professional installations and excludes do-it-yourself projects.

More on Step 3: Rebate Application Materials

Three documents must be submitted to apply for this rebate:

  1. Copy of first page of CenterPoint Energy Audit Report or Home Assessment Form signed by certified auditor and customer,

  3. Contractor's itemized invoice.

All three required documents must be postmarked by December 31, 2012. This program ends December 31, 2012.
It is the responsibility of the certified energy auditor, customer and contractor to ensure that all required application documentation has been filled out completely and accurately, and that the documents have been submitted in a timely manner.

Rebate Eligibility

This rebate program applies only to Minnesota homes heated with natural gas from CenterPoint Energy. Rental properties are eligible to participate in this rebate program; however, it is the responsibility of the property owner to authorize all work to be performed on the home. Rebates will only be paid to the account holder. To qualify for a rebate, CenterPoint Energy customers must complete a three step process beginning with a qualifying home energy audit, followed by the installation of qualifying air sealing and/or insulation upgrades, and ending with the timely submission of all rebate application documents.

A qualifying home energy audit must be completed prior to the installation of upgrade measures in order to be eligible for this rebate.

Rebates will be issued only for measures installed between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012. Rebate qualifications and amounts are subject to change. Completed rebate forms will be processed in the order in which they are received. Rebate funds are limited. Rebates will not be paid if funds are depleted prior to December 31, 2012. CenterPoint Energy Conservation Improvement Program (CIP) rebate programs may be cancelled or changed at any time. CenterPoint Energy issues cash rebates in the form of checks, not utility bill credits.
