What smart technologies are you deploying?
Smart meters are just the beginning

In December 2008, CenterPoint Energy received approval from the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) to deploy more than 2 million smart meters across its electric service territory in and around Houston, beginning in March 2009. Smart meters automate functions such as meter reading and electric service connection and disconnection as well as give consumers more frequent and detailed information on their electricity use. Installation of smart meters across Houston is scheduled for completion in mid 2012 with the aid of a smart grid investment grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

With help from this grant, CenterPoint Energy has also begun installing advanced power line equipment that can enable one of the world's first intelligent electric grids. The intelligent grid is designed to improve electricity distribution and monitor grid health, which should reduce the number and shorten the length of power outages, among other benefits.
