Yes. The Public Utility Commission of Texas has authorized deployment of smart meters across CenterPoint Energy’s electric service territory. While the old meters may operate correctly, they do not provide consumers with the potentially energy- and money-saving insights into their electric consumption and other benefits that smart meters can provide. Smart meters, which in fact have been shown to be more accurate than electromechanical meters, will also reduce the need for estimated meter readings.
