Janiece M. Longoria, a member of the CenterPoint Energy Board of Directors, has been named a recipient of the 2008 Sandra Day O’ Connor Board Excellence Award honoring women lawyers who have served with distinction as independent directors of public companies. The award was presented by DirectWomen an initiative of the American Bar Association (ABA) and the ABA Section of Business Law.
DirectWomen is a program designed to identify, develop, and support a select group of accomplished women attorneys in order to provide qualified directors and good corporate governance for the boards of U.S. companies.
CenterPoint Energy Chairman Milton Carroll said, “Janiece has madesignificant contributions to CenterPoint Energy and is well deserving of this award. Our company and its shareholders have certainly benefited from her experience, judgment and counsel.”

Longoria has served on CenterPoint Energy Board of Directors since 2005 and currently serves on the board's audit and finance committees. Longoria is a partner in the law firm of Ogden, Gibson, Broocks & Longoria, and L.L.P. She also serves as a commissioner of the Port of Houston Authority and is on the board of The Greater Houston Partnership, where she is active on the World Trade Division Supervisory Board.
She also serves on the boards of directors and executive committees of the Galveston Bay Foundation and Heritage Society of Houston Harris County. Longoria is an honors graduate and received her doctorate of jurisprudence from the University of Texas.In January 2008, Gov. Rick Perry appointed Longoria to the University of Texas System Board of Regents.
Longoria is a member of the ABA’s Securities Law Section, the State Bar of Texas, and the Houston Bar Association. She is a Fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation. She is also a member of the Legal and Compliance Division of the Securities Industry Association.
Longoria and five other recipients were honored at a luncheon last Friday at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.
