CenterPoint Energy reports 40,000 customers without power

These numbers and the outage map will be updated in the company's Storm Center at 8 a.m., noon, 4 and 8 p.m.
Total number of customers: 1.9 million
Total customers who lost power during Hurricane Rita: 700,000
Total customers restored: 660,000 (94 percent of those who lost power)
Total customers with power: 1,860,000 (98 percent of total customers)
Total customers without power: 40,000 (2 percent of total customers)

Houston – Sept. 28, 2005 (12 p.m. CST) – As of 12 p.m., 40,000 CenterPoint Energy customers remain without power as a result of Hurricane Rita.

CenterPoint Energy realizes customers who are still without power are frustrated that their service has not been restored, and the company is sensitive to their needs. Going forward the remaining repairs will take more time because CenterPoint Energy needs to remove downed trees, set new poles and replace spans of damaged power lines.
