MINNEAPOLIS – December 19, 2013 – CenterPoint Energy invites customers to take advantage of its paperless Online Billing promotion to fund The Salvation Army’s HeatShare Program and help those in need pay their energy bills. For every Online Billing enrollment through the holiday promotion, CenterPoint Energy will donate $5 to HeatShare now through Jan. 31, 2014, or earlier if the $30,000 goal is met.
“Last year, nearly 40,000 Minnesota families requested HeatShare assistance but only 4,200 received it due to lack of funding” said Jean Krause, director of Community Relations for CenterPoint Energy. “We are happy to offer an opportunity to raise more funding for this much needed cause and help the environment by going paperless.”
HeatShare is a Salvation Army program that provides emergency utility assistance for families in crisis, low-income seniors, disabled people unable to maintain a steady income and anybody experiencing an unexpected financial emergency pay energy bills. Funds are typically used to pay for natural gas, oil, propane, wood, electricity and emergency furnace repairs. The non-governmental program is offered at most Salvation Army operation centers in Minnesota. Call 1-800-842-7279 to find the office that serves your area.
To participate, customers can visit CenterPointEnergy.com/ShareWarmth and follow the links to enrollment. Customers who are already enrolled in Online Billing or prefer not to enroll can make a donation on their natural gas bill by following the Make a pledge now.
