CenterPoint Energy opens new facility in Houston’s East End

HOUSTON – December 4, 2012 – CenterPoint Energy cut the ribbon and officially opened a new 122,000 square-foot facility in Houston’s East End, contributing to the ongoing revitalization of the community east of downtown Houston.

The 10-acre Navigation Facility will house training, warehousing, construction and maintenance activities, shop and operations that will serve all of CenterPoint Energy’s six-state natural gas service territory. In addition, the facility will be home to the company’s Mobile Energy Solutions, a portable, temporary natural gas supply available for pipeline integrity testing or emergency outages.

“This new facility combines natural gas operations from three of our existing facilities,” said Steve Greenley, division vice president of Texas Gas Operations. “We are eager to enhance our efficiency at this facility, strategically located in Houston’s East End which is central to our Houston-area natural gas operations.”

About 225 employees will be housed in the new facility and will begin moving into the building later this week, with all work groups making the transition by 2014. D E Harvey Builders constructed the new Navigation facility, which was designed by PGAL Architects for CenterPoint Energy.
