CenterPoint Energy’s Home Service Plus® launches two new services to protect your family and your wallet
Offerings help simplify equipment maintenance and repair for Minnesotans

HSP Maintenance Plan
MINNEAPOLIS – October 5, 2011
– CenterPoint Energy’s Home Service Plus® (HSP) introduces two new services to help customers keep household equipment running safely, efficiently and save money. For a minimal monthly fee, customers can now enroll in the HSP Pipe Protection Plan and/or the HSP Maintenance Plan.

  • The HSP Pipe Protection Plan covers customer-owned, interior natural gas piping running from the meter to natural gas appliances, like the furnace, water heater, range and dryer.
  • The HSP Maintenance Plan provides customers important annual maintenance and safety inspections on six types of household equipment to help extend the useful life of the equipment.

“We are always looking for opportunities to add value and create peace of mind for customers and we believe that these new services provide more options for consumers who are looking for quality from a provider that has been in the business for more than 80 years and one that they can trust,” said Joe Vortherms, director of HSP. “For instance, a customer purchasing the HSP Maintenance Plan can save about 30 percent in comparison to purchasing services individually from us on an as needed basis and receive additional seasonal maintenance.” The HSP Maintenance Plan is designed to help keep essential household equipment running safely and efficiently, and includes a heating season visit, which covers a furnace or boiler tune-up, water heater tune-up and refrigerator coil cleaning as well as a visit during the cooling season, which provides a central air tune-up, dryer vent cleaning and up to two bath fan cleanings. Customers can customize their plan to meet their individual needs.

As a natural gas utility, CenterPoint Energy responds to gas leak calls and corrects any problems on company-owned gas facilities. However, sometimes the source of a leak or other problem is on a customer-owned interior natural gas pipe. The HSP Pipe Protection Plan covers homeowner’s interior, readily-accessible natural gas pipes and is similar to other HSP offerings, which eliminates deductibles and trip charges. If the technician determines a problem exists, there is no charge for the materials or labor.

The plan does not cover pre-existing conditions such as improper installations or code violations.
