CenterPoint Energy receives high scores and ranks second in J.D. Power 2010 Customer Satisfaction Study
Company repeats high ranking among top rated natural gas utilities

MINNEAPOLIS - October 21, 2010 - CenterPoint Energy ranked second among Midwest Region utilities in the J.D. Power and Associates (J.D. Power) 2010 Residential Gas Utility Customer Satisfaction Study. CenterPoint Energy has ranked among the top Midwest Region utilities in either first or second position for seven of the past nine years the study has been conducted.

“We are proud of this accomplishment in ranking second out of the 17 large Midwest gas utilities in overall customer satisfaction because we value our customer’s opinions about our ability to provide reasonably priced products and services, as well as communicating important and relevant information to meet our customers’ needs,” said Tal Centers, division regional vice president of Gas Operations for CenterPoint Energy. “This year, our customers gave us significantly higher scores in particular for price, corporate citizenship and communications. Plus, they said we are doing an even better job in the area of billing and payment. I would like to thank our employees and our customers for continuing to position us amongst the top rated utilities in overall customer satisfaction.”

The J.D. Power study is a comprehensive evaluation of customers’ attitudes in six different dimensions: corporate citizenship, billing and payment, price and value, communications, customer service and field service. CenterPoint Energy received high scores from customers in nearly all the categories with an overall score increase of 23 points, or nearly twice the improvement demonstrated by the industry as a whole. The J.D. Power study indicated that the top utilities’ increases in satisfaction scores were driven by improvements in the areas of communications, natural gas prices and corporate citizenship.
