Minneapolis – Effective Dec. 1, CenterPoint Energy Minnegasco will shorten its name to “CenterPoint Energy.”  The word “Minnegasco” will no longer be used to describe the Minnesota-based business unit.

“When CenterPoint Energy was formed in Oct. 2002, our plan was to create a single, national identity, and eventually discontinue using individual business unit names such as Minnegasco,” said Gary Cerny, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Minnesota business unit.  “Since most of our customers already know us as CenterPoint Energy, we hope this change will be seamless.”

Customers in Minnesota will likely see a few changes over the next year, including changes in the design of the bill envelope, web site and other company materials.  Company phone numbers, payment addresses, billing services, and service programs will remain the same.  CenterPoint Energy will also continue to use the Home Service Plus® name for its home services.

“The proud traditions of quality and commitment we’ve developed over 130 years remain the same,” added Cerny.  “We will continue to provide safe, reliable service and the superior quality and value that our customers, employees, shareholders, and communities in Minnesota have come to expect.”

CenterPoint Energy is Minnesota’s largest natural gas distribution company, serving more than 745,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in over 240 communities.  Home Service Plus®, its non-regulated business also in Minnesota, offers a broad range of home services including heating, cooling and appliance sales, repair and maintenance.  Headquartered in Houston, Texas, CenterPoint Energy is a domestic energy delivery company that includes electric transmission and distribution, natural gas distribution and sales, interstate pipeline and gathering operations, and more than 14,000 megawatts of power generation. The company serves nearly five million metered customers in six states and has assets of over $19 billion.  CenterPoint Energy has been in business for over 130 years and has more than 11,000 employees.
