New program offers ‘Extra’ advantages for being a CenterPoint Energy online customer
Online customers can save up to 50 percent on favorite brands by shopping online

HOUSTON - September 9, 2010 - CenterPoint Energy recently launched ‘CenterPoint Energy Extras,’ a new discount shopping website for online residential and business natural gas customers. The program allows customers to receive daily online discounts of up to 50 percent from Best Buy, Target, Barnes and Noble, Macy’s, Home Depot and more than 28,000 other leading merchants. During the sneak-preview week the program was available, customers saved an average of $103.

As the first natural gas utility to use a discount shopping portal to reward existing online customers and to encourage new enrollments, CenterPoint Energy has taken a non-traditional utility approach to increasing customer satisfaction through a cost-effective online relationship.

“We are excited to be able to offer the CenterPoint Energy Extras program to our customers,” said Debbie Korenek, division vice president of Marketing & Sales. “Online customers already enjoy the ease and convenience of managing their natural gas account and now Extras will offer them the added advantage of a personalized, secure, one-stop shopping experience with exclusive savings just for them.”

By enrolling in My Account Online, customers have 24-hour access to account information, usage charts for the past 15 months of service, bill and payment transaction history, the ability to enroll for online bill payment and other account services, and now, exclusive access to the CenterPoint Energy Extras discount shopping platform.

“When customers transact business with us online, it enables us to serve them more efficiently and at a lower cost,” said Korenek. “Extras, is our way of thanking our online customers for their loyalty, and encouraging all our customers to take advantage of our online services.”

The Extras website is available to online customers free of charge and does not require any waiting period, points accumulation or hidden costs. Customers make their purchases directly from the merchants who make offers on the Extras site, where there are savings on electronics, appliances, furniture, clothing, restaurants, travel, entertainment and more. There is also an Overwhelming Offer available daily at a price discounted up to 80 percent. An Overwhelming Offer is similar to a Black Friday sale, but it is available every weekday of the year.

Current My Account Online customers can access their Extras discounts by using their CenterPoint Energy My Account Online log-in information. Customers seeking more information can enter the Extras online platform at www.CenterPointEnergy.com/Extras. Customers can register for My Account Online via the Extras website if they are not already registered. Customers will need their most recent CenterPoint Energy bill to complete the simple registration process.
