MINNEAPOLIS – October 23, 2013 –CenterPoint Energy partnered with the Minneapolis Firefighters and Operation Warm’s Firefighters Coats for Kids program by donating $1,500 for new winter coats for youths in need. As a result, more than 500 students at Craft Laney elementary school in North Minneapolis received new winter coats this week.
“We are happy to support this great cause and provide appropriately sized new coats to these children in need,” said Joe Vortherms, vice president of Gas Operations in Minnesota. “It’s more than just staying warm; we want them to know we truly care.”
“We really appreciate CenterPoint Energy’s financial support and help in distributing the coats,” added Justin Johnson, Minneapolis Professional Firefighter and Coats for Kids organizer. “The community as a whole has really stepped up and as a result, we hope to double the amount of coats we can hand out next year. We look forward to our continued partnership with CenterPoint Energy.”
In September, the Minneapolis Firefighters Association for the first time, teamed up with the national non-profit organization, Operation Warm to launch Firefighters Coats for Kids program. A recent fundraising event, well attended and supported by the community, including CenterPoint Energy employees, raised nearly $15,000.
