Residential Energy Efficiency Program​​

​The CenterPoint Energy High Efficiency Homes™​​ program promotes local builders who build and certify high performance and ENERGY STAR​®​ homes. These homes use less energy than one built only to the Texas residential building code, providing homeowners with a more comfortable home that operates for less money. An ​independent third party home energy rater tests every home in this program to help ensure that it meets strict energy efficiency specifications, which result in lower utility bills and a cleaner environment.

Prospective new homeowner

High performance home energy savings are typically realized through a combination of factors, including:

  • Tight exterior construction to reduce air leaks;
  • High-performance windows;
  • Controlling air leaks through the duct system or unsealed holes;
  • Controlling air entering the home from the outside;
  • Properly installed home insulation;
  • High-efficiency heating and air conditioning systems;
  • High-efficiency water heating equipment;
  • High efficiency lighting fixtures; and
  • Independent inspection and testing 

ENERGY STAR® certified home energy savings are typically achieved through a combination of factors including:

  • ​​Complete Thermal Enclosure System - comprehensive air sealing, properly installed insulation, and high performance windows work together to enhance comfort, improve durability, and lower monthly utility bill costs
  • Complete Heating and Cooling System - installed to deliver more comfort, indoor moisture control, improved indoor air quality and quieter operation
  • Complete Water Management System - protects roofs, walls, and foundations from water damage
  • Energy Efficient Lighting and Appliances - ENERGY STAR® certified lighting, appliances and fans
  • Independent inspections and testing
