MINNEAPOLIS – May 3, 2016 – CenterPoint Energy leadership was recently recognized for their commitment to sustainable transportation and supporting reductions in carbon dioxide emissions. Metro Transit, along with Edina Mayor Hovland, honored the company with the 2016 Commuter Choice Award in the Building Owner and Managers category for the work, lease arrangement and support given to Meet Minneapolis for their Minneapolis Visitor Information Center in CenterPoint Energy’s new Minneapolis headquarters at 505 Nicollet Mall, which includes Move Minneapolis.
“We are honored to receive the Commuter Choice Award this year,” said Al Swintek, Government Relations manager for CenterPoint Energy. “We encourage the use of clean, alternative transportation options, so we’re especially pleased to have Move Minneapolis located in our building to offer residents, visitors and employees, convenient access to transportation information.”
“Metro Transit is proud to recognize all those who share its commitment to sustainable transportation,” Metro Transit general manager Brian Lamb said. “And CenterPoint Energy’s commitment is clear: by locating their headquarters at the epicenter of our transit network, they have not only given their employees convenient access but created an ideal space for Move Minneapolis to share transportation resources and promote alternatives to driving alone.”
The Commuter Choice Awards puts a spotlight on organizations, employers, building owners/management companies, government agencies and individuals who actively promote alternatives to driving alone. Programs or initiatives that successfully promote taking the bus or train, walking, bicycling, vanpooling, carpooling or teleworking are eligible to be recognized.
