Houston, TX – March 8, 2016 – CenterPoint Energy was recently awarded the 2015 Project of the Year award for its Energy Saving Trees program by the Houston Area Urban Forestry Council.
The program, made possible through a partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation and Trees for Houston, is designed to help participants better understand where to plant trees on their property for maximum energy savings.
“Trees around homes will not only help reduce the amount of energy your home requires, but they also add to your property value, reduce your carbon footprint, improve air quality and more effectively catch storm water runoff,” said Diane Englet, senior director of Community Relations for CenterPoint Energy. “We are honored to be recognized for our efforts with this great program.”
CenterPoint Energy has been participating in the Energy Saving Trees program since 2013, and to date has given away over 8,000 trees. It is estimated that these trees have saved more than 20 million kwh of energy and rid the air of more than 260,000 lbs of air pollutants.
