Minneapolis - May 20, 2015 - CenterPoint Energy's Conservation Improvement Program (CIP) provides free furnace safety inspections and tune-ups for customers who qualify for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The company recently completed more than 1,000 free tune-ups through its Stay Safe. Stay Warm Program for low income families.
"We want our customers to be safe during the heating season," said Todd Berreman, Director of Energy Efficiency for CenterPoint Energy. "As of this month, we have repaired or replaced 46 heating systems that were not working safely and efficiently without any cost to our customers. As a result, with a more efficiently running heating system, our customers benefitted from lower heating costs."
Carter Dedolph, senior energy program administrator for CenterPoint Energy added, "We work closely with local Community Action Program partnership agencies to identify eligible customers and our trained Home Service Plus technicians performed tune-ups on customers' heating systems. Our technicians are also providing important safety testing to avoid dangerous carbon monoxide (CO) build up and exposure."
Below are additional programs that CenterPoint Energy designed to help low income customers manage heating costs:
• Low Income Weatherization Program provides free wall and attic insulation and air sealing to help improve the energy efficiency of eligible homes for qualified customers. In some cases, replacement of old, malfunctioning heating or water heating equipment in participating homes may also be covered. Contact your local Community Action Program agency for more details.
• Commercial Affordable Housing Multi-Family Bonus offers high-value savings with a 25 percent rebate bonus to help reduce building operating costs and can thereby keep rental rates lower.
