Natural Gas Water Heaters

Discover the Benefits

Why a natural gas water heater?

ENERGY STAR® qualified natural gas storage models can save your family money. On average, a gas storage model may save you about $30 or more annually when compared with standard gas models and over $200 per year versus an electric model. Choose a high-efficiency natural gas storage model instead of an electric model and your family can save more than $2,000 over the life of the water heater. That’s money in your pocket.

Are you thinking of building or purchasing a new home? For new construction projects, a natural gas water heater will cost more than an electric water heater when installed, but can save the average family $16 or more in operating costs each month. Your net savings for a high-efficiency water heater added up month after month may result in savings of more than $2,000 over the life of the water heater. That’s money in your pocket.

Twice the performance at half the cost

With a natural gas water heater in your home, you can forget about having to take cold showers and waiting between baths. Natural gas water heaters recover at about 40-50 gallons per hour and are sized to recover in about one hour, from being completely drained to ready to go. ENERGY STAR® qualified water heaters perform comparably to standard gas water heaters and are equipped to work anytime.

With the recovery rate of an electric water heater, your family may have to wait 2-3 hours or more in order to have adequate hot water supplies. The storage capacity of an electric model would have to be doubled to match the output of a natural gas water heater.

Better for the environment

Not only will the energy savings pay for the higher price of a high-efficiency ENERGY STAR® qualified natural gas water heater, but the investment can help improve our environment too. If everyone in America chose a high-efficiency natural gas water heater instead of a standard gas model, we could prevent 1 billion pounds of CO2 from polluting the atmosphere, the equivalent of planting 132,000 acres of forest.

If everyone in America chose an ENERGY STAR natural gas water heater instead of an electric model, we could prevent 6 billion pounds of CO2 from polluting the atmosphere, the equivalent of planting 792,000 acres of forest. Just one high-efficiency water heater can save over 9,000 pounds of CO2 from polluting our air every year – over 90,000 pounds saved over the life of the equipment, compared to an electric water heater powered by a coal plant. When you choose a natural gas water heater, you are choosing a more efficient and cleaner-burning fuel to heat your water. Natural gas burns cleaner than electricity, releasing:

  • Significantly less carbon dioxide (a major greenhouse gas)

  • Almost no sulfur dioxide (a key cause of acid rain and haze)

  • Less than one-third the amount of nitrogen oxides (the primary cause of smog)

  • Zero mercury emissions (a common cause of contamination in fish)
