While trees can beautify a neighborhood, shade a customer‟s home and lower their energy bills, they can also cause outages and create a safety hazard when planted too close to power lines. CNP recently partnered with the City of Bellaire in the Houston area to replace trees that threatened power lines in Loftin Park.
After removing several tall trees that had limbs draped over power lines, CNP foresters and volunteers planted 12 trees in the park. The event helps promote the company's "Right Tree. Right Place." program, which aims to educate customers about what trees can grow to maturity without coming into contact with overhead power lines and disrupting electric service. CNP also installed a series of permanent education panels to show park visitors safe planting distances away from power lines and appropriate tree sizes.
