The 2009 Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas (JA) bowl-a-thon, with a “Rock-n-Bowl” theme, featured 54 teams of CenterPoint Energy bowlers who raised money for business education. More than 300 employees, including Harlan Elijah, far left, family members and friends, many decked out as their favorite musicians, participated in this year’s event. Proceeds exceeded $37,000, an increase of more than $3,000 over last year’s total, despite challenging economic circumstances. CenterPoint Energy consistently ranks among the top five Houston-area companies that sponsor this JA fundraising event.
"While we had winners for high scores, costumes and fundraising, the real winners will be the 200,000 students in Houston-area school districts who will receive JA lessons in their classrooms during the next school year as a result of the funds raised at this event," said Tracy Janda, JA program coordinator.
