For the twelfth consecutive year, CenterPoint Energy was the title sponsor of the Torchlight Parade in downtown Minneapolis. The parade is part of the city’s Aquatennial celebration, which in past years has attracted around 100,000 spectators.
The Torchlight Parade offers CenterPoint Energy an opportunity to build relationships with community leaders and customers while positioning employees as leaders in the community. Nearly 70 CenterPoint Energy volunteers marched in the parade, as did mascots Wanda Water Heater and Buddy the Blue Flame, who helped promote safety and the benefits of natural gas.
More than 1,700 customers now safer
CenterPoint Energy recently announced the completion of nearly 1,700 free 15-point furnace tune-up and safety checks for qualified low-income customers, through its Stay Safe. Stay Warm Program.
The company's Community Relations department partners with Community Action Agencies in Anoka County, Minneapolis and suburban Hennepin Counties to identify eligible recipients.
"This program fills a need in the communities served by the company, and CenterPoint Energy has the skills to support a program that offers safe, efficient, reliable service to qualified low-income customers," says Joe Vortherms, divisional vice president, regional operations.
