CNP directs Minnesota families to LIHEAP assistance

Stay WarmMinnesota volunteers who participated in the annual Stay Warm phone bank, hosted by the Minneapolis-area CBS affiliate WCCO-TV, responded to 15 percent more inquiries than during last heating season. Volunteers answered phone calls from viewers seeking information about heating assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This federal government program is designed to help qualifying Minnesotans who cannot pay their energy bills and provides financial assistance for home heating and cooling, energy crisis intervention and low-cost weatherization. In 2008, LIHEAP provided 126,500 Minnesota households with assistance.
