For the ninth consecutive year, Mike Causey, Construction & Maintenance leader, took the “Polar Bear Plunge” in Jonesboro, Ark., to raise $1,200 for the Special Olympics. Causey called this year’s jump “a piece of cake,” as the water was about 40 degrees.
“The worst was about six years ago when the air temperature was 15 degrees and the water temperature was 34. The lake was completely frozen over except one spot where the ducks and geese had kept the water open, and that’s where we jumped,” he said.
He chose to direct his gift to the Special Olympics, because his brother-in-law has competed in several events, including shot-put and bicycle racing, and will compete in basketball this year.
