The CenterPoint Energy Torchlight Parade on July 22 was a main event of the 70th Annual Minneapolis Aquatennial Festival. This is the ninth year CNP has sponsored the evening parade, which included some 75,000 spectators, 20 bands, 90 entries and CNP volunteers, many of whom served as torchbearers who illuminated the night with gas-fired torches.
Extensive news media coverage put CNP in the spotlight alongside locally based personalities who call Minneapolis home, which emphasized the parade theme: This year, there’s no place like home. The celebrity grand marshals were legendary Vikings player and Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page, singer Paris Bennett of "American Idol" fame and the 1941 Queen of the Lakes Eva Brunson Steiner. DeLaSalle High School foot-steppers from a diverse, downtown Minneapolis school wore CNP uniforms and sang, chanted and danced along the route.
"Through our sponsorship, we personally thanked our customers and enhanced employee relationships with customers and the community," said David Baker, division vice president for the Minnesota region. "Our sponsorship enables the city of Minneapolis and surrounding areas to experience CenterPoint Energy’s commitment to the community and promotes our many services." About 400 special guests, including key customers, vendors and others also enjoyed a CNP VIP event.
Co-chairs Kelly O’Keefe, Home Service Plus product manager, and Dale Anderson, Construction Services manager, thank all employees who made this event so successful.
