Charities benefit from Saltwater Fishing Tournament

Saltwater Fishing TournamentCenterPoint Energy recently hosted more than 350 fishermen and guests at the 6th Annual Charity Saltwater Fishing Tournament in Texas City. Proceeds from the tournament totaled $34,000 and were split between the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, which aims to cure and control the chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States; and the Kids Unlimited Foundation, which provides children with cancer the opportunity to enjoy fun, family-oriented activities. Each of the agencies received $17,000 as a result of the sponsorship and participation in the successful event.

Scott Prochazka, division senior vice president of Electric Operations and the executive sponsor of the tournament, awarded a team prize for the heaviest stringer and an individual prize for the largest youth catch, as well as individual prizes for the largest speckled trout, redfish and flounder. Participants, like the ones pictured, brought their catches to the Charles T. Doyle Convention Center for weigh-in after a long morning of fishing. The largest catch of the day was an 8.56-pound redfish.
