After using 43 lunch hours to deliver meals to the elderly, one employee has earned a $300 GIVE Grant for a deserving organization. Carol Alberto, secretary and CNP employee for 37 years, spent a year delivering meals provided by the nonprofit organization Nutrition and Services for Seniors (NSS) to the elderly residents of Villas of Sunnyside, a senior community in Beaumont, Texas.
“It is very fulfilling to help others,” Alberto said. “The best way to fight stress, job burn-out, depression or boredom is to do something for someone else. Participating in fundraisers is nice, but when you deliver meals, you have personal contact with the people you help. Most are very grateful, especially when it is cold or rainy and they see you going out of your way for them.” Pictured from the left are Elaine Shellenberger, NSS; Alberto; and Jackie Prejean, NSS. Alberto’s support for NSS has been contagious, as the organization is now delivering meals directly to the CNP Beaumont office for volunteers to distribute. Alberto’s goal for 2010 is to earn another grant for NSS.
